Bush buys into Iraq hostage crisis

By Deb Riechmann

<snip>Bush did not answer a question about whether the US would react militarily if those captured had been American. With the crisis in its second week, the president said he supports British Prime Minister Tony Blair's efforts to find a diplomatic resolution.

Bush would not discuss options for what might be done if Iran does not comply, but he seemed to reject any swapping of the British captives for Iranians detained in Iraq.

"I support the prime minister when he made it clear there were no quid pro quos," the president said.

3. Ahh, our Bold Leader has spoken
As usual, he hasn't said anything except his options are open. We learned in Iraq that means war is definitely on someone's table. Diplomacy doesn't work for george since that would call for seeing all sides of a situation. He is a my way or the highway person, doesn't require thinking. We can only hope that the repubs in congress will do some arm twisting and stop any idea of dropping bush's bombs on Iran.

Madeline Albright has been making the media rounds and is quite clear she sees a problem if there is a minor confrontation that could easily escalate to military action.

bush could and should at least explain why he is holding the Iranians??
