No more nurse shortage (NOT about the flu)
The local nooz just did a story.

Strapped families with a member who is a nurse but hasn't been working are sending that nurse back to work

Nurses who saw their retirements eaten away by one corporate scam or another are delaying retirement.

Patients with tighter budgets are opting to not have elective procedures.

The overall result is that there is no longer a nurse shortage and jobs in other than emergency and acute specialty nursing are pretty much dried up.

I never thought I'd see the day ......

1. I did. Half of us left the field because the working conditions
Edited on Sun Apr-26-09 06:08 PM by Warpy
can only be described as brutal. Those of us who tried to retire found out our pensions were a joke and many went back part time.

Now hospitals are infested with suits who think they're running department stores expect us to act accordingly, "customer satisfaction" being more important than keeping them alive. Somebody complains about getting an IV put in, that nurse is called on the carpet for not making him enjoy it.

Fuck it. I'd rather live under a bridge than go back to that.

The shortage will be back before you know it.

3. IMO there is not a nurse shortage, only too many nurses who refuse to work for demeaning salaries
and under conditions that are despicable.

That's my opinion based on conversations with nurses including daughter, daughter in law, and hundreds of nurses from all over the country, deans of nursing programs, and presidents of state nursing associations.
