Baxter working on vaccine to stop swine flu, but admitted sending live flu viruses to subcontractor
The OMFG moment of the century: Illinois-based Baxter working on vaccine to 'stop' swine flu outbreak in Mexico 25 Apr 2009 Specialty drug maker Baxter International Inc. will work with the World Health Organization to develop a vaccine that could stem an outbreak of a deadly swine flu strain in Mexico. Baxter spokesman Christopher Bona said Saturday that the Deerfield, Ill.-based company has asked the WHO for a sample of the flu strain. He says Baxter has patented technology that allows the company to develop vaccines in half the time it usually takes -- about 13 weeks instead of 26.

1. You have to have the live virus to make a vaccine - how else can you do it?

2. I think the point is why trust a subcontractor
after all the shit we have gone through in Iraq.

3. Since when do we rely on the Govt to develop vaccines?
Hasn't it always been "subcontracted"? Unless its some DOD thing, I would think so.

It has to go to a subtractor because they have the equipment and expertise
this isn't a subcontractor like Halliburtin. Safe effective vaccine development requires expertise and "clean" factories.
