Guess who loves them some federal gubment NOW
Secessionist Gov. Rick Perry asks for federal help to deal with swine flu.

http://thinkprogress.org/2009/04/26/tx-perry-swine-flu/

Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX), who was last making headlines for suggesting that Texas may consider seceding from the Union, is requesting help from the federal government to deal with a possible swine flu pandemic:

perryGov. Rick Perry today in a precautionary measure requested the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provide 37,430 courses of antiviral medications from the Strategic National Stockpile to Texas to prevent the spread of swine flu. Currently, three cases of swine flu have been confirmed in Texas.

Man, that guy sure does a fast flip-flop.

Maybe GWB is advising him? Why not, Bush is pretty much imprisoned in Texas.

3. No sooner do these people flap their yaps when a piano falls on them
Something tells me that Perry still won't learn a lesson. He'll be back at the talking points for the next election cycle. Hopefully, Texans have longer memories than he hopes.

20. Anybody here read The Mallorean?
Big long 5-book fantasy, but part of the action involves the politics of Tolnedra.

The Emperor of the outgoing dynasty 'adopted' his heir, having no male children, and all the high families (led by Grand Dukes) figured the crown was up for sale once the old Emperor passed. Well, the heir chose to become Emperor in truth and keep the crown for himself.
This pissed off one of the Grand Dukes (Vordue, I think it was) so much he actually took his Grand Duchy and went home...informed the Emperor that Tol Vordue (the portion of Tolnedra in which his ancestral lands lay), was now a separate country, so take your tax collectors and GTFO.

Sticky situation, and a very bad precedent to let stand, because the whole country could fly apart. Fortunately, the Emperor was truly a Politician. He made a secret deal with Vo Mimbre (capital of the country bordering the 'Republic of Tol Vordue' on the north)...and suddenly, there were all these raids across the border from rogue knights. O NOES!
The Vorduvians sent to the Emperor for troops to come and help them...and the Emperor replied that he had the greatest respect for the Grand Duke who was the head of this clusterfuck new country and wouldn't dream of interfering in what was strictly an internal matter; it would be the height of arrogance to do something like that. Best of good luck, old chap....

The Grand Duke was finally forced by his people to come to the Emperor, hat in hand, and petition to be allowed to rejoin the Tolnedran Empire.

The Emperor, who had more important things to do than gloat, graciously allowed this...and dispatched the troops. Think there was a bit of fantasy genre-type high-fiving going on between them and the 'rogue knights'...but the raids stopped almost immediately...
and none of the other Grand Duchies tried to secede.

Now, here's a drink of water...it's your last one tonight...and sweet dreams.
