I'm sure most of you have seen the link, but here it is again.

http://armed-services.senate.gov/Publications/Detainee%20Report%20Final_April%2022%202009.pdf

I've been slogging thru it, and have posted a few other passages elsewhere, but thought I'd share the following. The highlighted portion is something I think needs more delving into, as I remember Hersh talking about women and children being abused at these places. From page 99:

The OTJAG's memorandum, which was attached, stated that Category III techniques "violate the President's order {on humane treatment} and various UCMJ articles" and that the use of scenarios designed to convince the detainee that death or severely painful consequences are imminent for him and/or his family and the use of a wet towel and dripping water to induce the misperception of suffocation "appear to be clear violations of the federal torture statute..."

2. The Hersh quote: Truly horrifying.
Just to bring others up to speed here:

Some of the worst things that happened you don't know about, okay? Videos, um, there are women there. Some of you may have read that they were passing letters out, communications out to their men. This is at Abu Ghraib ... The women were passing messages out saying 'Please come and kill me, because of what's happened' and basically what happened is that those women who were arrested with young boys, children in cases that have been recorded. The boys were sodomized with the cameras rolling. And the worst above all of that is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking that your government has. They are in total terror. It's going to come out."

Also this:
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told reporters, "The American public needs to understand we're talking about rape and murder here. we're not just talking about giving people a humiliating experience." He did not elaborate.

3. It all needs to come out. Too many people are trying to rationalize
what should be horrifying everyone. "They kept us safe." Pah!
