Is Our Drive For Torture Prosecution Politically-Motivated?
NO!

But rest assured, this will be the mantra chosen by the MSM. We are soon to be saturated with pundit after pundit insisting that this is the work of Bush-haters who hate America. They will regale us with excuse after excuse about how the tortured "deserved" the punishment; that the fact that the victims are still alive is proof-positive that a line was not crossed; that 3000 dead Americans don't have an advocate to defend them; that Bushco did everything it could to protect us in the wake of 9/11. They will tell us that our concern is not, in fact, human rights, but rather to attack those good Christians who used to lead our government.

I'm certainly not suggesting that we withhold prosecution for these reasons; I'm simply saying that we had better mount a counter-offensive immediately to nullify the effects of a media campaign that is surely being crafted as we speak.

1. My reason is to protect captured U.S. soldiers.
Unless we draw a bright line against torture -- by prosecuting those who rewrote the rules to allow it -- then our troops are vulnerable to similar treatment under a "You tortured us so we torture you" justification.

Why is "politically motivated" a bad thing?

3. Sure, it is, at least in part.
Everything in Washington is politically motivated. Why would anyone think this would be different?
