Sell Out.
Presidency.

Not new, but under a different brand name.

Why don't they ever go Left?

Americans are so abused and rendered indifferent by their so-called leaders.

Political boards have become gossip columns regurgitating MSM.

Hard questions are disappeared.

Tiny few rule.

Sold.

The bankers and corrupt corporations STEAL right before our eyes.

12. Yes... of course...
I understand your frustration, Lieutenant.

However, politics is about calculus.
Serious, long-term calculus.
Obama has a gun to his head.
If he did what you or I want done today, the trigger would be pulled.
He seems to be a master strategist AND tactician.
He's playing the political calculus game.
Hopefully it will work.
It may not.
Time will tell...

Who is holding the gun on his head? Geeze, he's not powerful enough as POTUS to do anything?

What freaking game is he playing?

And give me ONE example of how he is a master strategist AND tactician.

No long odds. McCain/Palin was a big fucking joke.

20. I find this "Obama has a gun to his head" argument fascinating. Are you serious?
You sincerely believe we live in a political system so degraded, corrupt and authoritarian that someone will pull a trigger? Perhaps you were speaking metaphorically, though I have seen the argument made literally several times. If you were speaking metaphorically, do disregard the below.

So you think the head of the executive branch is protecting monsters (would-be assassins as well as torturers and war criminals, it would seem) to save his own life? Do you think he has no recourse but to cower in a corner, lest they strike?

You think you live in a country that is so controlled by monsters... and you really believe the answer is to ... wait? For the invisible super secret plan? And hope it will work? That's an adequate response to believing that murderers have so infiltrated the government that anyone who upholds the law will be offed?

Just curious. It truly is a fascinating argument.

Wiki on Deep Politics: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_politics

'DEEP POLITICS' is defined as all those political practices and arrangements, deliberate or not, which are usually repressed rather than acknowledged.

A 'DEEP POLITICAL SYSTEM' is defined as one which resorts to decision-making and enforcement procedures outside as well as inside those sanctioned by law and society. -- Peter Dale Scott, PhD

Holder and the DOJ will focus on torturers and appoint special prosecutor to look at possible war crimes.

That is still entirely within the realm of possibility and I encourage you to watch a replay of the Rachel Maddow show on MSNBC and you will see what I'm talking about.

67. That's the part that has me most concerned: They stopped even TRYING to hide the corruption
YEARS ago. They no longer care if the American people know we are being screwed or even how badly. They must perceive themselves (they being corrupt politicians who hand out trillion dollar "bailouts" and billion dollar "no-bid" contracts to corporate sponsors.)to be absolutely untouchable.

Our system of campaign finance is nothing more than legalized bribery.

13. Just saying Obama knows which side of his bread
is buttered. It isn't the Left side. The vast majority of conservatives vote for the Republican candidate and the vast majority of the liberals who vote, vote for the Democrat candidate. The battle is for the middle.

By my calculations, I could be wrong, if Obama and McCain had split the middle 50/50, McCain would have won the popular vote by a comfortable margin.

You made a baseless claim that this was a "liberal" board, and I took exception to that claim. This is a Democratic board, and not all democrats describe themselves as "liberal" or "progressive". There are blue dogs, yellow dogs, etc. who post here. If you don't expect to be taken to task for an o.p. that some may disagree with, then perhaps you might consider posting elsewhere? Some of us support this president to the hilt, and resent the extremes of the democratic party piling on, right alongside the GOP.

I think the cumulative effect of constant antagnozing & whining from the liberal wing of the party, and the incessant bashing from the right, will only serve to weaken this president to the point where he can't get a single thing done for the American people.

Some people are claiming that the president ran as a liberal, and that's just not true. That you, or anyone else feels duped, isn't Pres. Obama's fault. There was ample time to get to know him, and his policies, prior to the election. I mean, the damn campaign lasted for two years. Contrary to the false claims made by the opposition party, this president is no socialist, so if you thought he was gonna turn into Dennis Kucinich once he was elected, you didn't do your research.

Sounds like it. Support the President to the Hilt? You are wrong honey. This board WAS set up as:

Democratic Underground (DU) was founded on Inauguration Day, January 20, 2001, to protest the illegitimate presidency of George W. Bush and to provide a resource for the exchange and dissemination of liberal and progressive ideas. Since then, DU has become one of the premier left-wing websites on the Internet, publishing original content six days a week, and hosting one of the Web's most active left-wing discussion boards.

77. "I never claimed he (Obama) changed"
From your OP: "Why don't they ever go Left?"

That implies that Obama is "going" somewhere else that is not-Left, just as calling him a "Sell Out" implies that he has somehow changed his principles or objectives in exchange for something.

Your statements and ideas might be more readily acknowledged if they were consistent from post to post.

43. Quoting DU Admin
"Democratic Underground (DU) was founded on Inauguration Day, January 20, 2001, to protest the illegitimate presidency of George W. Bush and to provide a resource for the exchange and dissemination of liberal and progressive ideas."

and

"We welcome Democrats of all stripes, along with other progressives who will work with us to achieve our shared goals. While the vast majority of our visitors are Democrats, this web site is not affiliated with the Democratic Party, nor do we claim to speak for the party as a whole."

and,

This website exists so our members and guests are assured that there are many others across the country who share their outrage at the unilateral, arrogant, and extreme right-wing approach taken by George W. Bush and his team, the conservative Republicans in Congress, and the five conservative partisans on the Supreme Court. We address the right in harsh terms, and we fully intend to make the word "conservative" absolutely radioactive.

then all the Admins have to do is say so. The conservative and moderate Dems will, as most seem to have done anyway, just leave. From your quote:

"We welcome Democrats of all stripes, along with other progressives who will work with us to achieve our shared goals. While the vast majority of our visitors are Democrats, this web site is not affiliated with the Democratic Party, nor do we claim to speak for the party as a whole."

Edited on Wed Apr-22-09 12:48 AM by muryan
I'm just not as liberal as some of the people here, few are. Internet forums are a great place to exchange ideas and acquire information that the corporate media finds beneath them. The problem is when they become to isolated and the forum community just feeds itself into a frenzy.

There's a fairly visible split here and I would hope to debate becomes a little more mature for this forums (and others) to maintain itself. Making threads titled "Sell Out" and only reciting a few tired platitudes does nothing but drive a wedge. People who are currently unhappy with the president will agree with, those are fairly pleased with his agenda will disagree. Commence the pointless bitching?
