When Jimi played the National Anthem...

...at Woodstock he did it as a veteran (Army Airborne).

When Ted Nugent did it recently on FOX Noise, at the Alamo, he did so as someone who left shit in his pants for a week to get out of going to Vietnam.

2. The first time I heard Jimi's version was at a firebase on the Cambodian border
The first time I heard Jimi's version was at a firebase on the Cambodian border, right where the tip of Laos comes together to form the 'tri-border' area. And my wife was at Woodstock enjoying the music live. The music was a revelaton for me and reflected perfect understanding of a broken nation.

7. I don't think he said "in" Cambodia ...
Nobody will say they were "in" Cambodia. We weren't there. It never happened.

I'm not sure that even Tricky would build a firebase inside Cambodia. That's a lot of gear to hide.

:hi:

5. First time I heard Hendrix's version from Woodstock I was a
patient in an Army hospital. The guy who played it for me had lost an arm and part of a leg in Vietnam. He loved it.
So did I.

16. people always forget that Jimi Did the Anthem In The MORNING FIRST THING.
It was a wake up like on television. "We now begin our broadcast day."

Every single time i see it imitated the idiot wannabe forgets that.

20. Correct. Jimi LOVED the way the Doppler affect made the airplane's engines sound as you jumped...
He was always trying to recreate that distortion with his guitar.

21. I remember reading an interview with Ted...
...about 25 years ago (I think it was Creem Magazine) in which he gave a detailed account of these maneuvers; wish I could find it again...
Anyone have a link or anything to that?
The article was actually pretty funny... but this was 'way before Nugent became The Biggest Douche in the Known Universe!

Too bad; I kinda liked some of his early stuff...
And he still definitely beats the crap out of this guy:

Great gift tee shirts, mugs and other cool stuff featuring neat images such as these at

22. I won't try to attach any personal sentiment or slant to what Jimi did.

It pretty much spoke for itself, and was further explained in the Dick Cavett interview.
