The worst bumper sticker yet
Saw this one yesterday:

"I spent time with President Bush"

If this isn't the most suckup asinine crap! Our Great Leader thinks it fit to print bumper stickers to "reward" those who get to have a royal audience with him! Remember when we had presidents who were happy to meet constituents, who wanted to hear their views? HRH Emperor Bush thinks people should have bragging rights for him condescending to talk to them.

4. I hope in 10 years, nobody will admit they voted for Bush
even worse than how nobody admitted they voted Nixon for years afterwards, either, even though he won in a landslide in '72.

29. This is an offensive comment. Please apologize.
Would you make a comment to DU chanting something stupid in a lame Steppin Fetchit dialect because you think it's cute to make fun of black people? I think not. So why, then, do you think it's okay to make a comment to DU like this instead?

Using "redneck" as a bigoted, jingoistic pejorative dismissive is every bit as offensive as using "nigger" in the same fashion, and you should be ashamed of yourself for doing so here.

Please apologize.

30. Redneck is a state of mind (or lack of it), not of race
"Redneck" is a perjorative for a racist. Period. It has nothing to do with jingoism. It has everything to do with Free Republic, and those that listen to hate radio, and by the way, trolls who post here and write very much like how I was pointing out they write. I am sorry if you took it as an attack on a specific culture, or that I was trying to single out a region, or people that live in the country versus those that live in the city. That was not my intent.

38. Yeah, what I thought. BOK, bok bok bok bok bok.
You can't legitimately make a case for the vailidity of using the pejorative term "redneck" to insult a whole class of people who may -- or may NOT -- fall into the category of narrow-minded idiots you lump them all into, so you take the really lame DU dodge of unilaterally branding them as "trolls" and then you withdraw from the field rather than trying to justify the unjustifiable.

My, what an impressive performance. Your logic is irrefutably sound and your rhetorical skills are simply unassailable.

42. For the record, what I said was that...
Edited on Sat Mar-31-07 07:25 PM by mloutre
...it is cowardly to gratuitously insult an entire group of people and then refuse to own up to it.

If the original remarks were legitimate, than the person who made those remarks should have no problem standing up and justifying them in public. If the original commenter can't or won't defend those remarks, then they are very probably bogus and undefendable.

(And please note, for moderation purposes, that condescendingly insulting a large but loosely-defined geographical-socio-economic group by referring to them by a negative epithet like "rednecks" falls directly into the class of broad-brush bigoted name-calling that the DU codes of conduct are supposed to discourage in the first place.)

41. Oh, please don't be that shallow. Citing Foxworthy is no defense either.
Just as Richard Pryor didn't make it acceptable for people to use the nasty hate word "nigger" in polite company even though he used it himself, Jeff Foxworthy doesn't make it acceptable for people to use the nasty hate word "redneck" in polite company either.

Why is it that people who would never dream of calling somebody "nigger" still seem to feel it's okay to call somebody "redneck"? Why should the latter be tossed off as something cute and funny to say when the former so clearly is not?

Can you justify drawing the distinction between the two terms? If so, how?
