Navy SEALS are damn good...
Consider the difficulty of what they did...it's almost incomprehensible.

Three SEAL snipers wearing NVGs, at dusk, from a ship in moving seas...

Three simultaneous shots, three kills.

Absolutely phenomenal. Not luck, just pure fucking skill...

Bravo.

1. they're clearly skilled and where trained but
I find all this cheering of killing grotesque. I'm glad the Captain was rescued and all, but we're not talking about target shooting, those were still human beings. And no, this has nothing to do with feeling sorry for the pirates. It has to do with not taking killing lightly.

But sometimes it is necessary.

These pirates chose their path. The Navy ended it.

I have no sympathy for them, and I admire the guys who have the incredible discipline and skills necessary to protect innocent people who did nothing to deserve to be kidnapped at gunpoint.

12. I agree with you cali... Celebrating death, even justifiable death
accompanied by incredible skill on the part of these SEALS, is unbelievably callous. Even the worst man or woman on earth, likely has someone who loved him/her and is in tremendous pain now. Celebrate the skill and commitment of our Navy and other military, but can we not temper it with just a bit of humanity?

13. Ok, the next time pirates take an American-flagged ship
we'll be happy to send you over there to wag your finger at them.

It'll give the SEALs a good laugh!

26. What he meant was
when America is faced with true enemies (let's all remember this was a ship delivering relief supplies, not oil for Hummers) then we really ought to do something less than KILL THE BASTARDS!

Yeah, I'm into a bit of chest thumping today. Pound your peace drum a little louder, and you won't hear me...

You're being rather obtuse and certainly insulting. While we celebrate the return of the Captain and an incredible rescue by our SEALS, there is no cause to be so callous about death.

44. Fail, genius. You are evidently incapable of reading for comprehension
either that or you're just dishonest. Try and twist this: I support the decison to rescue the Captain, and that includes whatever they had to do to achieve that end. What I don't approve is the disgusting and unwarrented cheering of violent death. You're a great example of that type of bonehead shit.

Can you hear me now, sweetie?

5. Highly trained.
I'm very happy that they did what they did...

However, we need to follow up with a plan that is fair...

1) Patrol the Somali coast with an international coalition of Navy ships

2) The coalition will not only halt the pirates, but will also stop the illegal fishing and waste dumping in Somali waters.

3) Provide some form of finance and protection to rebuild a Somali fishing fleet, without getting involved in the
ongoing Somali political problems.

Carrots and sticks... it's always better than just sticks.

I especially like the international part. This is an international problem and the US shouldn't be the world's chumps and take on another burden all alone.

39. From some reports...
the Europeans have some responsibility for this mess too. They are the ones that have hired questionable corporations to
dump their medical and nuclear (from medical devices) waste in Somali waters.

Although, there is one little problem with part of your suggestion...
"... without getting involved in the ongoing Somali political problems."
If I'm not mistaken, Dumbass' administration already screwed this situation by helping the Ethiopians invade Somalia.

Mark this one up as another mess created by the GOP that Obama (and all of us) will have to clean up.

38. However, a relatively FLAT surface
for that entire Texas size area. And uniform (more or less) in color. Makes it real easy for using remote sensing to
track everything that moves. Even in a area the size of Texas. Radar, sonar, aerial surveillance, satellite imaging.

And the pirates don't have boats that go faster than 35mph either (at least, not yet from what I've read).

So yeah, it's possible. And hope the pirates don't start buying fast attack subs. :)

We simply have to commit to deploy the assets.

30. i think that the cover story about seeing the captain in 'imminent danger' is just so much bullshit.
but hey- that's fine by me.

considering the small windows on the lifeboat- about they could probably see were the heads that they were aiming at- and not much more...and especially not seeing a gun leveled at the captain's back.
just a hunch.

34. I agree
I imagine the order was to take them out as soon as there were clear shots to all three. Perhaps a gun may have been pointing at the Captain, but it doesn't really matter. Being kidnapped in close quarters with the pirates constitutes imminent danger to me.

36. I'm waiting for the inevitable Chuck Norris version of these events
It'll be one SEAL, not three, and he's a pulled-out-from-retirement 63 year old SEAL with an awesome turbo-German last name like "Nick Striker" or "Rock Cannon" or "Zap Luger" and he's a rebel, y'know' but the only man for the job. Also, there'll be at least 12 pirates, not four, and the ship's captain will be Zap Lugar's girl friend. And if 20th Century Fox makes the movie, the pirates will be bankrolled by the Iranians.

That's just my guess.
