1. I have always had a crush on Johnny Depp.
Even before the whole pirate thing.

I thought he was so great in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape".

8. When Pirates of the Caribbean
came out in DVD, my Daughter had some of her (young teenage) friends over to watch it. I saw a few minutes of it and commented, "I went to school with people like that!"

Everyone was appalled. But one of my classmates (in the mid 70's) could have been the basis for the Johnny Depp character.

14. A Pirate Looks at 40 (in my case, 60, arrrggg)

By: Jimmy Buffett
1974
Mother, mother ocean, I have heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all

Watched the men who rode you switch from sails to steam
And in your belly you hold the treasures few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream

Yes I am a pirate, two hundred years too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late

I've done a bit of smugglin', I've run my share of grass
I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast
Never meant to last, never meant to last

And I have been drunk now for over two weeks
I passed out and I rallied and I sprung a few leaks
But I got stop wishin', got to go fishin'
Down to rock bottom again
Just a few friends, just a few friends

(instrumental)

I go for younger women, lived with several awhile
Though I ran 'em away, they'd come back one day
Still could manage to smile
Just takes a while, just takes a while

Mother, mother ocean, after all the years I've found
My occupational hazard being my occupation's just not around
I feel like I've drowned, gonna head uptown

Coda:
I feel like I've drowned, gonna head uptown

The Barbarossa Brothers. Together they made Algiers the center of Mediterranean piracy in the 16th century.

27. Tampa Invaded by Pirates!
Named for the legendary pirate, Jose Gaspar, who terrorized the coastal waters of West Florida during the late 18th and early 19th century — Gasparilla has been a tradition for over a 100 years. The festivities begin with a children's parade this Saturday, January 19, and culminates next Saturday, January 26 when Jose Gaspar and his rowdy swashbucklers sail into Tampa Bay amid much pageantry and “invade” the city. The tawdry band of pirates then take to the streets in a raucous parade and street party.
