Senate Plans Stem Cell Vote in April
By LAURIE KELLMAN, Associated Press Writer
49 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - The Senate plans to vote on a bill next month to clear the way for government financing of new embryonic stem cell research, defying a presidential veto threat, aides close to the talks said Friday.

Lengthy negotiations with opponents of publicly funded research using human embryos produced an agreement under which senators would vote on two bills _ one similar to the version that passed last Congress, inspiring the lone veto of President Bush's tenure in office. It would lift Bush's 2001 ban on taxpayer-funded research using stem cells developed after that point in time.

To win the consent of all senators for a floor vote on that bill, negotiators agreed to a vote on a second bill more palatable to abortion opponents and other critics of embryonic stem cell research.

The alternative bill, sponsored by Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., would direct the Health and Human Services Department to establish guidelines for stem cell research on embryos that have naturally lost the ability to develop into human beings. It also would ban most procedures by which embryos are created for the purpose of research.

1. YAAAASSSS!!!

And Karl has lost the "nuts" that were blocking this!!!

He says some of the nation’s most prominent evangelical leaders were known in the office of presidential political strategist Karl Rove as “the nuts.”

“National Christian leaders received hugs and smiles in person and then were dismissed behind their backs and described as ‘ridiculous,’ ‘out of control,’ and just plain ‘goofy,’” Kuo writes.

More seriously, Kuo alleges that then-White House political affairs director Ken Mehlman knowingly participated in a scheme to use the office, and taxpayer funds, to mount ostensibly “nonpartisan” events that were, in reality, designed with the intent of mobilizing religious voters in 20 targeted races.

MSNBC

He's crapped on them before...I don't think they're that forgiving to go along with his wishes a second time :)

2. I disagree...
in order to get their way, they'll go for it every time.

They'll feel they have no alternative, because helping people who are already here is SO much less constructive and holy than helping those...who don't exist yet.

3. Headline: "U.S, Evangelicals have Simultaneous Strokes"
I can't wait.

It appears the Dems know on which side their bread is buttered.
