If you only watch one show tonight, make it this one!

Bill Moyers talks with alternative media heavyweights Glenn Greenwald and Amy Goodman about what can and can’t be addressed in big corporate media. Amy Goodman and Glenn Greenwald are the first recipients of Park Center for Independent Media Izzy Award (named for I.F. Stone). Find out more about I.F. Stone's life and legacy

3. More about William K. Black
April 3, 2009

The financial industry brought the economy to its knees, but how did they get away with it? With the nation wondering how to hold the bankers accountable, Bill Moyers sits down with William K. Black, the former senior regulator who cracked down on banks during the savings and loan crisis of the 1980s. Black offers his analysis of what went wrong and his critique of the bailout

will probably be mostly preaching to the choir, but K&R anyway.

5. Well, I call my R rep from time to time
and tell him that if he doesn't do anything else he should watch Moyers. (For all the good it will do, but, hey, it is a Texan telling a Texan to watch a Texan.... ;) )

11. I'm not a Texan but live in Texas, and have never felt it made
a difference. I love your suggestion: watch Moyers. I fear Rethugs are pre-programmed to inhale the swill they're dealt, and most do. But asking someone to just watch something, without comment, sounds fine.

It's almost playoff time in the NHL and one has to have priorities. ;)

Moyers is one of the best. His show is always fascinating.

34. Amy G is coming to a local venue in April. I will definitely be there to support her and
hear what she has to say.

The substance of her reportage is usually top notch and covers things no other news outlet will touch with a ten-foot pole. Her delivery is off-putting to say the least. I hate to admit it but it took me a while to get used to her "style" of newscasting. I realize that it's pure Amy but I think a lot more people would take the time to watch her/listen to her if she were a bit more animated in her presentation.

Don't get me wrong, because I love her for what she does. But I do think she could be much more effective if she modified her delivery a bit.

40. It's an acquired taste! I laugh every time she says an amount of money
like "a million dollars" because she says " a millllllllllllliooooooon dollars". lol

But, the quality of her work is simply unsurpassed, imho. She has the most important stories and usually before anyone. How does she do it? She makes all those mainstream guys look like talk show hosts. :)

43. She's an industrial-grade, investigative drill. No flash, no tantalizing morsel to hint at
the substance about to be exposed. Just a straight-on, no-nonsense penetration to the nitty gritty of whatever topic is in her sights. No hesitation, no qualms, all bidness. Yeah, I love it. No bullshit either. Just the facts, ma'am.

Haha. She is a treasure. And an acquired taste, as you say.

I never thought of her that way before.

A Desert Storm vet I know met her at last year's Winter Soldier gathering when she was reporting on that "non-event" as the corporate media had deemed it to be. He said she is really cool and he liked her a lot. For what it's worth.

32. excellent point..as well as pointing out the media celebrity elites
and their power and influence
dont want to get flamed but i was totally put off by the non stop coverage of russerts death and memorial...exaggerated by his media cronies...it was days and days of it..while everyone was saying how much he would have loved the political campaign that was around the corner...i always thought he would have derailed it..who knows now...but it got to the point that i couldn't watch mtp regardless of what anyone said

41. Yep. I never watched him. Hearing him be sainted was sort of annoying
although it was obvious that a number of people genuinely liked him and felt his loss. But a great newsman he was not.

30. Glen said "what must not be said". I love how Moyers plays "the innocent".
He advances the argument asking rather wide-eyed questions, which, of course he knows the answers to. GREAT program.

They have carried Amy since the beginning of Democracy Now and she is very good to them. So is Ray McGovern. He is on a lot.

This may be red state hell but we have a great progressive radio station. :hi:

35. For anyone who'd rather read than watch...
Greenwald's column today covers Black's portion of the Moyers show, as well as the segment with himself and Amy Goodman.

http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2009/04/04/summers/index.html

Pretty strong stuff. And very depressing. What a mess. And they are committed to this mess, they want to run with it. I very much want Obama to succeed. That's why it's so hard to watch what he's doing here.

"The financiers on Wall Street, political elites in Washington, and media stars in the New York/Washington corridor." True, true, true.

Very good listening. K & R.
