Saw the tax-man today

Because we sold our former home we owned for 33 years last year, we had a one time bump into the 25% tax bracket. No complaining from us. We pay our fair share. Why can't wealthy R's be the same way?

1. My brothers says that the years he pays the most taxes are the ones he has the most money.
His income is variable and doesn't always fall in neat, balanced calendar year increments.

He decided he's fine with that, and some years his tax hit was much more than I made. But as he pointed out, he still had plenty of money left over.

2. we got hit hard this year too, BUT it's because
they did not withhold quite enough from a $20K bonus, and none was withheld from interest from our CDs($1350.00 interest)..

I'll gladly pay more when we make more:)

we still got a little back, but not as much as last year:)

3. I worked for a rich dem who got a $2.5 million tax bill one year
& that was after his quarterly payments! He said to me, "You might think I'm upset over paying this amount in taxes, but do you have any idea how much I made to have this tax bill?" He was a great guy to work for - excellent wages & really decent benefits. A republican solicitor called once, he laughed & said, "Tell them I'm a democrat!"

4. To answer a few i private questions

Our former home was rental property for the last 11 years. Since we didn't live in it the minimum of 2 of the last five years, we had to pay capital gains.
