Iran to Broadcast Sailor's Confession
Iran's Arabic TV Channel Says It Will Broadcast Footage
of British Sailor's Confession

TEHRAN, Iran Mar 30, 2007 (AP)— Iran's official Arabic-language TV channel
said Friday it would broadcast footage of a confession by one of the 15
detained British sailors.

The move seemed to be an Iranian bid to step up the propaganda battle over
where the sailors were when they were detained by the Iranian navy near the
mouth of the Shatt al-Arab waterway on Friday last week.

The Al-Alam channel newscaster said the taped confession would show a British
sailor explaining how he and his colleagues entered Iranian waters "in an
illegal way." He did not identify the sailor, but added the tape would appear
later Friday.

Britain insists the sailors were seized in Iraqi waters, where they were searching
merchant ships under a U.N. mandate, and said no admission of error would be
made.

1. Whether they were or weren't,
none should be made to go on TV and state a confession. But I guess that's not as bad as going into one of our black hole prisons and then after torture, taken to Guantanamo. I hope they are released to the Royal Navy and this episode can be put into the past.

2. agreed
the embarrassment has already been done. This is like when the soviets got our w-2 pilot after they shot his plane down. They returned the pilot after some embarrassment but kept the plane.

TEHRAN, Iran - A British military serviceman appeared on Iran's official
Arabic-language television station on Friday and apologized for entering
Iranian waters "without permission."

The serviceman, whose name was given in Farsi as Nighton Thomas
Summers, said he was aware that the incident in which he was seized
was the second time since 2004 that British military personnel had
entered Iranian waters.

"Again I deeply apologize for entering your waters," Summers said.

He was shown sitting with another serviceman and the female British
sailor Faye Turney against a floral curtain. Both serviceman wore
camouflage fatigues with a label saying "Royal Navy" on their chests
and a little British flag stitched to their left sleeves.

Whether or not the sailors entered Iranian waters, Iran has gone too far.
