No 44.6%

This is in the heart of neo-con wing-nut country. DU did it for an Al Gore global warming poll please do it for the right to choose.
It's another attempt by the SC legislature to control women's bodies.:dem:

3. They want to force women to undergo an ultrasound that's not medically indicated?
I wonder how many technicians would refuse to give them.

6. every woman
who is considering an abortion is already full of guilt and knows very well that it is a fetus. This is cruel.

10. It's Not About "Cruel"
It's not really about trying to show a woman how much her fetus looks like a baby in hopes of dissuading her.

It's about increasing the costs and inconvenience associated with an abortion. Who is going to pay for that ultra-sound, hmmm?

13. That was my question...
Edited on Thu Mar-29-07 09:02 PM by TWriterD
who is going to pay? But aren't ultrasounds already required (and therefore part of the cost) to ensure the pregnancy is advanced enough to perform a surgical abortion? I did a quick Google and came up with the following from a rabid anti-choice group:

"One abortionist on Long Island even said, 'the bottom line is no woman is going to want an abortion after seeing a sonogram.'"

http://www.care-net.org/news/pr/pr5.pdf

I don't dismiss the guilt/dissuade argument--that's one of the many reasons they protest outside of clinics with extremely graphic images.

On edit:

http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/legis07/stories/2007/03/19/0320metlegabortion.html

In Georgia:

"Under the bill, the physician who is going to perform an abortion or his or her qualified assistant must provide the woman with a list of health care providers, facilities and clinics that offer to perform an ultrasound free of charge.

If the woman chooses to have an ultrasound, the doctor must ask her if she wants to see the images and hear the fetal heartbeat, if audible at the time. Before an abortion, a woman must certify in writing whether she was provided the opportunity to view the ultrasound and listen to the fetal heartbeat and whether she accepted either offer."

Here's a radical idea: Why not improve access to affordable birth control and provide realistic education rather than paying for ultrasounds after the fact?

Sigh, common sense is truly gone in this country.

15. It's The Inconvenience, As Well
Like waiting periods. She's taken the time off of work. She doesn't drive, but she took the bus down to the clinic. Now she has to go running all over town to find the place that will do the free ultrasound.

True, it is also about trying to make women second guess their decision, but it's also about making abortion as inconvenient as possible.

27. Damn
I'm in a rare but shitty mood this evening - with zero tolerance for the self righteous.

When I started, "Yes" was at 63%.

Now:
Should women seeking an abortion in S.C. first have to view images of their fetuses?
Yes 54.5%
No 45.1%
Don't know 0.5%

I took the liberty of voting for some people who couldn't make it tonight.

Wish I could have done more.

29. This is just total bullshit and just a way to try to interfere...
...with the Constitutionally protected right to choose. There are women having abortions because of rape, medical necessity, the fetus is horribly deformed, has died in utero, will die almost immediately on birth, etc.

These women should be FORCED to undergo this kind of trauma in addition to everything else???

No one is "pro abortion." It is a very private and hard choice for a woman to make and this kind of interference in all cases, not just the ones I listed above, interferes with that choice.

I wish to hell that others would keep their noses out of something that is NOT their business!

30. People should already learn about fetuses in school !!
And about reproduction, sperm and eggs, different states of pregnancy, safe sex, pills, morning after pills.

Then it wouldn't be necessary to show those poor women pictures of fetuses or at least much less likely.

You don't show lung cancer patients pictures of lung cancer either!!
You treat their medical problem!

This is so bias!!!

First: "Shhh, don't talk about sex!"
After: "Why have you gotten pregnant you bad girl!?"

All I can think of is: D'oh !!!
