New York Post Speculates About Cocaine Use

Before the blogosphere convicts Ashley Biden, the VP's daughter, of a cocaine felony, let us pause for a moment to consider the many equivocations in the New York Post story that launched this claim.

For starters, the only fact being reported by the Post is that a friend of Ashley's tried to sell a videotape of the alleged crime -- and the newspaper declined to pay after reviewing 90 seconds of a 43 minute tape.

The newspaper's editors act as though they took the high ground by stating "the Post refused to pay for the video." But then they go on to speculate in print about what's on it -- despite being unable to confirm that Ashley is on the tape.

If the newspaper was interested enough to watch a short clip, what was it about the tape that caused the Post to back off from obtaining it and including it with the article?

Consider some of the qualifiers in this story (emphasis added):

* The tape "shows a 20-something woman with light skin and long brown hair"
* The "woman appears to resemble Ashley Biden"
* The "dialogue is difficult to discern"

The bottom line is that a responsible newspaper would not have printed this story without confirming who was on the tape. Perhaps this story will turn out to be what the Post suggests, but the newspaper's first account does not get us there.

1. Why the speculation if they cannot confirm its her?
Crucifying someone in the press without showing us actual proof, gotta love the media especially Rupert Murdoch's rag of a newspaper.

3. It's just a little coke... jeesh
Let's see...

NYPost Speculates, Alleged Crime, unable to confirm, appears
to resemble, difficult to discern and so on...

Who in this world can believe a Digital Video Tape of Ashley
surrounded by her friends. Naw, can't be authentic.

Some one photoshopped a room full of "Ashley's
friends" while she tokes. Or was it an actress - made
up to look and sound exactly like Ashley.

Oh let's side-step the whole issue and make a lot of
excuses.... but if it was a Republican's daughter... wow...
now that's important !!

Talk about Hypocrisy

4. Would you like anchovies on your pizza?
Since this is your first post, let me tell you... there were many people here who felt that your little pretzledent's kids should be off limits. It's obvious you've never spent time here reading any of the threads and just popped over here in an a pitiful attempt to stir shit up. It wasn't even a good try. Enjoy your stay.

5. You missed the whole point. The post doesn't even know if it's
her. But people like you believe what the post writes, and that is the travesty. It has nothing to do with political affiliations.

6. Defame and ask questions later?
Newspapers love paying expensive court judgments.

I'm surprised the NYP bothered to even check first.

:sarcasm:

Enjoy your brief stay. Perhaps next time you can choose a topic with a tad more red meat. This one is rather lame. :hi:
