Is there a recent president who has not use a teleprompter?
I thought Clinton and both Bush prez's used them. How long have they been avaiable anyhow. why is this such an issue? I nearly tore off a stupid dumbfuck's head the other day when she tried to convince me Obama was a bad speaker because he "needed" a teleprompter.

1. Did you tell 'dumbfuck' to go look at Bush, even with a
teleprompter? And Obama is a bad speaker?? To me it seems like that's all they have and are running with it even though it makes no sense. And yes, since teleprompters were made, I believe all politicians who give big speeches use them.

Next question, how about when responding to questions? Who has proved to be better at that than Obama? They got nada.

2. This dumbfuck is a bigot
I try to limit my exposure to her. But yeah, I did throw the war criminal in her face adding that he couldn't even talk without snickering and that he should be executed for his war crimes and destroying the US. I'm quick like that.

4. agree 100%
Obama does stutter at times, but who dosen't. I know I would if speaking in public.

But I would not make up words the way that Bush did.

3. What's wrong with using a teleprompter? Most speakers use notes
And many of them read their speeches straight from the notes they hold on the podium. Even Bush did that on occasion and it was an improvement over his attempts to read teleprompters. So what's the difference if speakers use a teleprompter?

I can't imagine even taking this that seriously - it makes me chuckle just reading the subject lines about this.

She's a cool person IMO and I have no issue with her at all, though I think I can give her a poke about the topic of the day. Why does it bother you and why did YOU bother to nose in on my response to her?

6. Nope. And Obama spoke brilliantly without notes, cards or telepromter all during
his campaign, but the corporate media, liars and Ministry of Right Wing Propaganda that they are, would like to make us think that this is the only president that has used a teleprompter, when no Repuke president has been able to utter word 1 without it.

7. If someone uses "teleprompter" as a negative of Obama's, they are gerbil brained
They are not capable of independent thought. Smile and move away quickly. Try not to make eye contact.

9. He wants to make sure he's stating things accurately...
To me, it's just part of his promise to be as honest with the American people as possible. He's also using technology to his best advantage. I don't see anything wrong with it. It shows he's smart.

16. No, it doesn't show he's smart as stupid, dumb ass, lying, know-nothing politicians use them too
exhibit A: The Shrub.

exhibit B: Sarah Palin.

What it does show is that every single politician that gives prepared remarks or speeches uses a telerprompter. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. It is not a sign of intelligence, veracity, or honesty or any other ridiculous adjective you want to use to conflate this issue.

Getting upset with Obama for using a telepromter, or praising him for it, for that matter, is like getting upset about someone using a toilet, or praising them for it.

Unless they are 2 years old, it's kind of silly and meaningless.

19. some people use a toilet....
because they are smart enough to know it makes sense. Others use it because they are about as smart as the average house cat (with all due respect to house cats). Obama uses a teleprompter because it's a useful tool to him. The others you mention used it because they had no other choice. I do praise Obama for doing what is right for him without caving into the criticism. The right is just trying to rattle him so they can say I told you so.

I, for one, am glad that he takes his message seriously enough to want to get all the facts correct. These are difficult times and even a genius would need help keeping everything straight under such pressure.

11. When President Obama came to my home town during the primaries,
he took the stage with nothing but a mic. No notes no promoters nothing but a mic and his wits, and he was brilliant! The right wants people to think this man can't speak without a prompter, well good luck on that one.

Peace!

22. Well to be fair
Reagan would tilt his head with that little shake and say, "Well....., well...." and then you could hear Nancy's stage whisper, "We're working on that" which he would jovially repeat for us. Then he'd give us all a happy wave and steer Nancy away.

18. Bush's UN Speech Full of Fone-eh-tick Pronunciations for World Leaders
Never before has the White House released a draft version of the President's speech to the annual United Nations General Assembly.

But this year, a glimpse of how the President sees his speeches was accidentally placed on the UN website along with the speechwriters' cell phone numbers.

Pronunciations for President Bush's friend French President Sarkozy "" appeared in draft #20 on the UN website. Other pronunciations included the Mugabe " regime" and pronunciations for countries "Kyrgyzstan " and "Mauritania ."

Most leaders submit a text in advance, especially to help the many translators who simultaneously turn the speeches into more than half a dozen languages. The teleprompter also needs to be loaded with a copy of the President's words so it will appear on glass screens in front of the lectern.

The Bush White House is unaccustomed to providing advanced texts suitable for reporters to publish before he actually speaks.

During an afternoon briefing, White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said, "there was an error made in trying to make sure that interpreters had what they needed. I don't know how the draft of the speech -- it was not final -- was posted, but it was, and it was taken down."

Perino said it was "not unusual" to include phonetic spellings for various countries in the speech though when asked if the president had a hard time pronouncing some of those country names Perino declined comment saying, "I think that's an offensive question."

Oh there may have been one set up, but actually using a teleprompter requires the ability to read.

25. What's the big deal about using a teleprompter?
If I were going to go on television to give a speech in front of hundreds of millions potential viewers, I wouldn't even consider trying it without a teleprompter (and probably a few shots of liquid courage), and I'm a former teacher who is used to public speaking.

Even the soap opera actors read their lines on the teleprompter. Even the news anchors read their lines on the teleprompter.
