FUCK FEDEX......

(Reuters) – FedEx Corp is threatening to cancel the purchase of billions of dollars worth of new Boeing Co cargo planes if Congress passes a law that would make it easier for unions to organize at the package-delivery company, the Wall Street Journal said.

FedEx may cancel plans to buy as many as 30 new Boeing planes should Congress pass a bill that would remove truck drivers, couriers and other employees at FedEx's Express unit from the jurisdiction of the federal Railway Labor Act of 1926, the paper cited the company spokesman as saying.

FedEx's actions raise the stakes in an increasingly bitter battle involving chief rival, United Parcel Service Inc, and the Teamsters union, which has been trying for years to organize at FedEx, the Journal said.

31. Is that current?
FedEx started a rival inhouse union for the pilots, one they could control better. I thought ALPA no longer represented the pilots but perhaps ALPA was able to come back.

39. It's only ever been ALPA
But many fought it! Bringing a union onto FedEx premises in the right-to-work state of Tennessee was not easy.

40. I know. Not cool.
It's an ugly anti-union atmosphere -- as you can see from recent actions from CEO Fred Smith.

Wouldn't them being under the RLA be a good thing? How would removing them allow them to unionize? :wtf:

20. Boeing is highly unionized
I wonder how Boeing's unions feel about Boeing agreeing to such a provision in the sales contract. Not to mention Airbus. Both these shops are highly unionized. Heck, there's an engineers union at Boeing.

Isn't that what we're hearing about the AIG bonuses? How can Fedex cancel a contract -- won't that destroy the very foundations of society?

23. They bought the first 15 planes they had an option to buy under the contract in Jan.
the option for the second has it written in that if the government passes legislation changing labor policies effecting Fed Ex they do not have to follow through on the option to buy the second set of 15 planes.

So how is following the contract canceling the contract??? Really :wtf:

22. Good to know
I spend A LOT of money at both Kinkos (personally) and Fed Ex (professionally).

Time to switch to UPS or USPS (God I wish USPS had better service, though)

Any ideas for a good alternative to Kinkos that's open outside 9-5? Most of the small print shops in my area who compete with Kinkos aren't open during hours when I can get there.

30. Never mind unions
Fedex doesn't even want their drivers to be considered employees. They have tried classifying them as independent contractors to avoid workers comp insurance and payroll taxes.

Fedex settled a lawsuit in California recently for the misclassification of employees as independent contractors. They have more pending.

41. I for one got two jobs at the same time once...
mornings at Fed-ex and evenings at UPS... same job same area different companies.

for three solid months I busted my ass as I had been out of work for a while... Fed-ex paid me promptly... Ups and union dues UP front I feel I worked for free that first month.

once caught up with my bills I went for the larger paycheck. and quit the lessor income. tada it was Fed-Ex. I worked there for another year. even with a unionized company the CHOICE of joining the union or not should be up to the employee.

the union at UPS made sure i paid a full year of dues even though i worked there for only three months. with a review at 6 months. Fed-ex had no such review.

I am with Fed-EX on this one.
