The SOA trespassers are imprisoned.
Five of our friends are incarcerated in prisons across the U.S. for speaking out
against the School of the Americas on Fort Benning. A sixth was sentenced to six
month under house arrest. They are in there for us, we are out here for them! Below
you'll find their addresses (To read tips on writing to prisoners, visit
http://soaw.org/article.php?id=1717 ) as well as suggestions for other ways in which
you can support the "SOA 6" and move the struggle to close the SOA/ WHINSEC forward!

FATHER LUIS BARRIOS
Father Luis Barrios reported to Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in Manhattan
on Monday, March 9, where he was held in isolation in very cold 6'x10' cell which is
called "the box." The following Thursday Luis suffered some very significant health
problems which included a kidney stone attack at 2:00 AM. Later that evening he was
taken to an outside hospital where he was treated for an infection and for the
kidney stones - then returned to general population in the prison the next day.
After some delay by the prison, an SOA Watch volunteer attorney was able to visit
Luis on Sunday, March 22nd and reports that he is feeling better and in good spirit.
He is still unable to make phone calls to his wife or receive a visit due to
bureaucratic obstacles. The SOA Watch attorney is working on these remaining
problems. Father Luis is the chair of the Department of Latin American & Latina/o
Studies at John Jay College and an Associate Priest at St. Mary's Episcopal Church.

years, and currently supports college campus engagement in community problem
solving. Born in New York, raised in Philadelphia, she now "has the joy of living in
the Rocky Mountain state of Colorado," and feels "both honored and extremely humbled

SISTER DIANE THERESE PINCHOT, OSU
Sister Diane Pinchot reported to FPC Alderson in West Virginia to serve her 60-day
sentence (release date May 9). Pinchot is a teacher and member of the Ursuline
Sisters of Cleveland. A friend of hers, Sister Dorothy Kazel, was raped and murdered
by soldiers in El Salvador who were trained at the SOA. "Dorothy's death and the
thousands of other deaths and disappearances taught us nothing, if today the same
U.S. government is still training soldiers the skills of torture and war," said
Sister Diane.

a Vietnam veteran, works in early childhood education. "Helping children move toward
nonviolent problem-solving, create friendships and build a more gentle community had
great value not only for the children, but for me," said Simmons. He also commented,
"as I had said often to my four-year-olds in preschool, 'don't hurt -- use words.' I
have been saying that, in various ways, to my government for many years."

LOUIS WOLF
Louis Wolf, 68, began serving his six-month sentence of house arrest in January
2009. Wolf served as the research director for CovertAction Quarterly, and is now on
staff at the Rock Creek Free Press. "Even if we accept the new President's premise
that American military and intelligence operators will actually stop the practice of
torture," said Wolf, at his trial, "will this also mean that we will no longer
'outsource' it, or encourage others to torture their citizens for us?"

Lou's house arrest ends on July 28, 2009

SUPPORT "THE SOA 6"

Spread the word in your community. Forward this email to yor family and friends and
circulate the petition to President Barack Obama. http://www.SOAW.org/petition

Media Outreach: Write or call your local media. Ask them to do a story on the
prisoners of conscience and other political prisoners. It is an outrage that those
responsible for the training of human rights abusers and for the use of torture
manuals at the SOA have never seen a jail cell from the inside while 237 human
rights activists were sentenced to over 100 years in prison and 52 years of
probation and home confinement. Write letters to the editor.

Join or build a local SOA Watch group: The most effective way to counter the
repression is to continue our resistance. http://www.soaw.org/groups.php

Make calls and/or send letters to your Representative urging her/him to support
legislation to CLOSE THE SOA/ WHINSEC! http://www.SOAW.org/legislative

Consider engaging in nonviolent direct action: Keep the pressure on! People who put
their bodies on the line to speak in solidarity with the people of Latin America are
crucial in the struggle to close the SOA/ WHINSEC.

1. America is safe again!
Get those nuns and veterans and priests locked away from decent society, where we know how to treat our torturer trainees.
