From local Fox affiliate: "$10M Church Opens in Fort Bend"...
I'm watching Family Guy and a commercial plugging tonights newscast rattled off something to the effect of, "A new $10 Million dollar church opened in Fort Bend county, we'll tell you how it's doing tonight".

Ten. Million. Dollar. Church.

God forbid we help the poor.

Only in Texas...

1. Well, Jesus ran a megachurch, didn't he?
So this is all pretty consistent.

4. People forget about the amphitheater on the shores of the Dead sea and the yacht
in the "walk on water" episode.

5. They do. They pretend to not be aware of it, is my guess. And the
Hawaiin shirts and the real estate holdings and the multiple tax exemptions...

2. A few of these multi-million dollar churches opened up in Anchorage
last year and for the life of me I can't see were they get their money to maintain them. Another thing I find interesting is when I see "churches" in industrial parks or office buildings.

Hmmmmmm.

3. I just love how these people keep attempting to undermine gay rights...
And then go out and open their $10,000,000 churches.

It's like they've completely missed the entire message, (love thy neighbor, Golden Rule, give up all earthly things and follow Christ).

At this point I'm more Christian than these people, and I'm an atheist...

7. Now that I've had a few minutes to digest this...
How in the "holy" heck does a church, in the middle of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression--even possibly a depression itself--while hundreds of thousands are losing jobs each month, and poverty increasing, and operating in an area where thousands have lost their homes in a horrible hurricane, decide to go ahead with plans to open a $10-FREAKING-MILLION-DOLLAR-CHURCH?

Do these people have any conscience at all? I'm sure they drive their SUV's to the new "facility" every Sunday, feeling good about themselves and how "moral" they are and all because they managed to wake themselves up, head over to Starbucks, (if there isn't already one in the church itself), and get there on time.

How can these people even sleep at night? And they think they have earned Heaven?

8. Have you not seen their bumper stickers?
"Christians aren't perfect...but they are forgiven."

So, they are excused for any and all shortcomings. That's how they live without guilt or conscience. Money can buy anything even a dogma. :grr:

10. Isn't it interesting...
That they are forgiven regardless of their actions in everyday life, but, oh say, gays aren't ever to be forgiven unless they stop what they're doing and repent?

12. Wish they would do more studying of their scriptures...
specifically the story about Jesus healing the Centurian's "pais" in Mattherw. Quite an interesting story for those who believe these histories. Our problem here is not the forgiveness of gays, but the equitable and humane treatment of gays. The god that may or may not exist will deal with forgiveness if and when the time comes, I guess...but I don't accept the theory that gays need forgiving...no foul, no harm in my opinion. Just saying....:hi:

11. We have had a mega church in my community for about 20 years
It looks like an arena a pro basketball team would play in. All types of festivities are held there - including high school graduations from around the area. I always joke about it and make people mad. I mention stumbling over the money changers, or asking for directions to JC Penny. I'm a card, I tell ya!
