Slapping my forehead: Melbourne wants ban on alcohol in glass
Melbourne wants ban on alcohol in glass

Melbourne's assistant police commissioner wants a ban on alcohol being served in glasses late at night.

Gary Jamieson's made the call after more problems at a notorious nightclub in the city.

Around 30 people became involved in a brawl at the Queensbridge Hotel, with around 13 injured.

Of the injured, a number suffered cuts inflicted by broken glass.

Opposition leader Ted Baillieu has backed up the assistant commissioner's calls and has also labelled the hotel a fight club, not a night club.

6. Oh good grief
How about refusing to serve anymore hooch to the belligerent drunks?

I suspect some of these fools were hurting a whole lot the next day than from more than just some cuts from broken glass.

8. Yes, guns are banned, and that's a good thing.
Do you go grocery shopping carrying a sword?
The glass thing is a separate issue. There is no glass at football stadiums,
All beverages are served in plastic cup things.

They've got a nice blacklist of sites that you can't link to without an $11,000/day fine, and the contents of the list is a state secret.

I also seem to recall something about people needing a firearms license to own laser pointers these days.

11. And now a ban on oranges
Netball Queensland bans oranges at half-time

A JUICY stoush is brewing between a state sporting body and citrus growers over the banning of oranges at games because of potential damage to teeth.

Netball Queensland, the umbrella body for 82 netball associations, has sanctioned the ban based on the high acid levels of oranges and the potential harm to children's teeth, according to Brisbane's Courier-Mail.

"Most of our associations have banned oranges at half-time or are discouraging coaches from offering oranges," said a Netball Queensland spokeswoman.

But Queensland Citrus Growers, which is about to roll out a major campaign promoting fruit at sports games, said it was outrageous to be discouraging children from eating fresh fruit.

State manager Chris Simpson said "citrus and kids' sport had been synonymous for generations".

14. Nice to see that old-fashioned idiocy is not limited to the good old USA.
I don't know why, but seeing other countries pull this kind of shit from time to time (seeing a problem and doing everything in their power to avoid actually addressing it) makes me feel a little better about the batshit insanity that goes on here.
