World's cheapest car goes on sale
India's Tata Motors will launch its extra-cheap 10 feet (3 metres) long Nano car in Mumbai on Monday, selling for 100,000 rupees or $1,979 (£1,366).

It will enable poorer citizens in developing countries to move to four wheels for the first time.

The four-door five-seater car has a 33bhp, 624cc engine at the rear. It has no airbags, air conditioning, radio, or power steering

Basically a golf cart with a body, NO safety features, NO emission standards, and TATA is projecting sales of about 250,000 a year in the countries (besides India) they can sell it in. Five people in a 10 foot long car. Let the carnage begin.

17. I am guessing you haven't been there to breathe the air and
and have 2 people sit on your lap while you are on the bus. They could also use some more garbage cans while they are at it.

5. It looks like it was designed along the lines of a VW beetle
albeit without the bonnet in front. The addition of that would likely make crashes with other minicars more survivable.

I drove a VW microbus for many years. There were no seat belts, no air bags, no AC, no radio, and no heat. There was only sheet metal between me and the cold, cruel world. I survived it.

Cheap personal transport will help people outside the cities. The cities themselves need better mass transit.

6. And how many more millions of tons of pollutants will spew into the air
so that people can have cheap transportation?

8. One hopes they will eventually be made with rechargable batteries
and come with a solar charger to unfold on top of them when they're parked.

There is always going to be a need for personal transportation outside big cities. Thinking smaller is a step in the right direction.
