Prayers and vibes please for fallen Oakland Police officers
Today was awful.

Comfort for the families, pray for it please.

I know some here think we are all just a bunch of assholes, but we aren't, there is so much we do that you never see.

My heart is broken today.

3. Without prying, have you been talking to people?
I can't even imagine what that must be like.

We talk, and I knew one of the officers involved.

I'm very depressed right now.

and I would just like to tell you that the majority of us don't think police officers are just a bunch of assholes. Most of us are very grateful for the job that you do keeping the rest of us safe.

By the way, K & R for Oakland's finest and for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

7. My heart is broken too. The families of these officers are in deep pain tonight
And my thoughts and prayers go out to them. NO person should go to work and not return because of a violent act. I hope the mods will allow at least one respectful thread that doesn't get trampled on by cop haters.

9. My sympathies to the families also.
Our political and educational work here often involves us in working with police and sheriff's deputies. Great folks and much sadness here if any are hurt or killed like the poor police chief in a nearby town who was killed by someone who hit him with a shovel as he was doing some routine inspections of downtown buildings. It isn't only assault rifles and the like that menace police. It could be primitive weapons also.

My prayers are with those families tonight...

Safe passage to those officers...

My son-in-law is a detective with LAPD...When he was a new cop, he worked Newton Division, as his choice.

We were on pins and needles for a long time...

There is much good in cops. I know it well!

Thank you for your service to us all...

24. My heart goes out to you
and all the families, friends, and coworkers of these officers.

As the daughter of a police officer, I know first hand how dangerous and difficult the job is. I also know what it's like to live with the fear (on a daily basis) that your loved one may not make it home from work.

Take care of yourself, hold your family and friends close, and know that many hearts are hurting for you. We are one big family and when one of us is in pain, we are all in pain. :grouphug:

27. There are more of us here than many realize..
To me what is sad about DU is the knee-jerk reaction to law enforcement officers. I know there are many good, decent liberal cops out there in DU land and many hide their occupation because of this knee-jerk reaction ad DU.

I feel safe to state, criminal justice is one of the most studied areas in American life and those that have studied it, know how complex of a topic area it is and to those of us who are proud liberals, we know there are warts and toads all around, but we also know there are amazing people in this occupation.

I sincerely feel for the families of these fallen officers. Like so many in this occupation, I know fellow officers who have been murdered in the line of duty and officers who have died in the line of duty. It is something I would not wish on any one.

Police offices are human beings and policing human beings is an almost impossible task, especially when ALL of us are flawed in one way or another. This is not an excuse for abject criminality or abuse, for what we all must remember is, we are all humans and in the most trying of times, we must all try to treat all others with humanity, even when it is hard to do.

32. Cops are not a bunch of assholes, at least not the ones I know.
They are caregivers, lifesavers, protectors and so much more. The loss of one cop is too many. Like all humans, cops have faults; I've seen those faults cause more pain to the cops than to the general public.

My condolences. I'm sending good karma and spring warmth to help you through this tough time.

33. I was just telling one of my family members yesterday that I put police through three filters
The first is my friend who is a police officer who in his off time cooks gourmet food that is to die for. I met him through his wife, who is a nurse. He's a big teddy bear though he alludes to having a different demeanor at work -I've never seen it. And my second is the way is the way I've personally been treated at protests - more good than bad and the third is the way I've seen them act in video of other protests, etc - the one isn't so good.

Overall, it colors my opinion to good. And I hate seeing this part. I think one of the reasons ER nurses and police officers hook up so often is that they share the front lines. The front lines can be scary and dangerous indeed.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

37. I have been praying for them all day and feeling sorrow for their families loss...
I have been somewhat in a state of shock at the fact that 4 officers in one day taken out. I keep thinking about all our police officers who put their life every day on the line for us citizens and the risks they take. I also was thinking about several police officers I know that are dear friends and whom I care for and the feeling of concern for their safety here in the Bay Area, knowing the risks to them. I want those Assault Weapons BANNED NOW!!!

Yeah, my heart is broken too today.

39. I have great respect for
those who put their lives on the line each day to protect and defend our citizens. This was such a horrible event and my thought go out to the families and friends of those who died.

I know the area. I worked in Oakland for years and this is such a tragedy for the community.

And I know first hand how hard you all work. I was personally affected by a very violent crime years ago in Oakland and the officers and detectives involved in the investigation were nothing but thorough and kind.

Take care.
