Will Evan Bayh be Remembered as a Traitor to Democratic Ideals?
I'm worried about Evan Bayh's possible obstructionist plans to undermine the agenda that got President Obama elected.

I called Bayh's office the other day and said that Bayh risks being known as ruining the country by organizing such efforts. And that a Democratic president and large Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress only happens once every 50 years and Bayh should support President Obama's agenda for Health Care and Energy Reform and passage of the Employee Free Choice Act.

Otherwise, Bayh will be forever known as a traitor to Democratic ideals.

I hope others will send Bayh's office the same message:

1. I honestly dont think he will stand in the way of the President's Agenda
I think this was just a move by Bayh to make himself feel important.

2. Evan Bayh is a traitor to the Democratic party... I don't like that he has gathered...

a total of 15 people in his little group. It is sort of like the DLC as far as I am concerned, and someone in the party needs to let him know that this is unacceptable. It would be nice to know what his agenda is!

3. Thank you!
I'm going to start doing my phone calling Monday, about the budget. Calling representatives does not seem very popular here, but thank you for doing so, and thank you for the reminder.

5. Yup
What did Bayh do to contain Bush's explosion of the national debt?

I oughta research this but I'll bet he supported the Bush tax cuts and the trillion dollar wars (along with the Prescription Medicare bill).

11. Not just no, but hell no.
In order to maintain a majority in the house and senate, we have to suffer the blue dogs. I don't want to see Mitch Daniels replacing Evan Bayh.

8. not who can win the general election
Take a look at the full picture. Indiana is not a progressive state. While it went, narrowly, for Obama in the presidential election, at the same time it was re-electing, by a very large margin, its repub governor. Its other Senator is a repub; And four of the nine house states are held by repubs.

12. I hope he'll be remembered when election time comes around.
I'm so pissed off at this guy I can barely stand it. Democrats worked liked they've never done before and donated until it hurt in order to get a Democratic majority and now we've got 15 going Republican-lite. There must be someone who can oppose this guy's seat.

14. And who do you think would likely replace him?
I'll tell you who: A repuke wingnut like Mitch Daniels. And I doubt very much that most of those in his gang of 15 will oppose the president. I don't see people like Mark Udall going repuke-lite.

18. I guess we're in fine shape if there is only 1 Democrat in Indiana
who can run for this office and it's Bayh.

15. I don't like Bayh but Indiana is better off with him as Senator than a Republican.
The problem with defeating him is that we would most likely not be able to get another Democrat elected to his seat unless worse than him. Baron Hill, Joe Donnelly and Brad Ellsworth suck as a Democrat too. Visclosky is the best of the Representatives with maybe Carson next in line. Visclosky is past his prime for the position and Carson probably needs a few more years. Carson doesn't have enough name recognition.

17. It's hard these days to find an Indiana Democrat, besides Evan Bayh I mean,
who could win a statewide ballot in that state.

Bart Peterson's run was ended, or in any case badly waylaid, and outside of Marion County, his support was iffy-to-none. After being ousted from office by voters, I'd say it is closer to 'none' than 'iffy.'

Joe Hogsett is and would be wonderful, but the loathsome maggot Dan Coats destroyed him in their Senate race.

The mayor of Lafayette is, well, local.

There are more Democrats in the Indiana Congressional delegation now than in the past, but none of them has much of a statewide presence at the level Lee Hamilton had say a decade or two ago.

Jill Long Thompson is the closest Democrat in Indiana, IMO, to a statewide presence, and Daniels whomped her in his re-election bid.

16. I loved his old man.
But Junior is quite bit to his old man's Right.

At times I wonder if Evan Bayh just naturally assumed that he would be the Vice President right now under a Hillary Clinton administration and is in something of a stage of shock that Barack Obama won the nomination.

I wonder also about his blue dog oppositionality. Not the long-term but the immediate. He stepped aside in the 08 primary cycle fairly early but not before he has amassed some serious funds for his own go at the nomination.

His candidate, Senator Clinton, did win the Indiana primary. But only by the narrowest of margins and also in the wake of news that Obama had triumphed big in North Carolina.

blockage of progressive agenda at a time that progressives had the White House and both Houses of congress---during the Jefferson Admin?
