VERMONT Senate panel approves gay marriage bill
MONTPELIER, Vt. – A Vermont Senate committee has unamimously approved advancing a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage in the state.

The senate Judiciary Committee voted 5-0 on Friday to advance the measure that was the topic of an emotional public hearing on Wednesday that drew hundreds to the Statehouse.

The full Senate is expected to take up the bill next week.

Gov. Jim Douglas has said he opposes the measure, but has not indicated whether he would veto it.

If approved, Vermont would join Massachusetts and Connecticut as the only U.S. states that allow gay marriage.

3. There's legalization pending in New Hampshire as well, but no bets on how it will turn out. (NT)

6. The only impediment to marriage equality in VT is that repuke, Gov Jim Doless
Marriage equality will pass with big numbers in the VT Senate and House. Even some repukes will vote for it- as one did on the Senate J panel today. Unfortunately, I think it's likely that the Gov will veto it. Then we'll have to see if the legislature is willing to override- something they've been less enthusiastic about doing on other issues.
