Fiorello LaGuardia, arguably New Yok's most beloved mayor .....
Edited on Fri Mar-20-09 08:28 AM by Stinky The Clown
.... read the comics on the radio every Sunday morning during a newspaper strike. It increased his popularity. Being funny for a few moments a week was a good thing then .......

..... and it is a good thing now.

Those who criticize Obama being on Leno .... are you serious? This matters ...... how?

On the other other hand, my only criticism is that it should have been Letterman ...... but whatever.

4. The choice of Leno over Letterman was likely deliberate
More people watch Leno than Letterman.

6. It was brilliant for the P to be on Leno. And, yes, reading the comics was THE
biggest thing LaGuardia ever did.

Style usually wins out over substance. So, might as well have good style.

7. LaGuardia was a funny guy
He was a Republican who was in the FDR administration.

He has an over the top Italian name, but he was not Catholic and his mother was Jewish and he was raised in Arizona, not NY, although he was born in Greenwich Village.

His is an interesting story.

8. Very true - he was a fascinating man. I think he flew airships in WWI.
