Fannie and Freddie are about to give out bonus bucks. Will we
see the same outrage as with AIG and others? A bonus in trying times is still a bonus, regardless of the company.

#
<snip>Fannie Mae is due to pay retention bonuses of between $470,000 and $611,000 this year to some executives, despite enormous losses at the government-backed mortgage company. Fannie's main rival, Freddie Mac also plans to pay such bonuses but hasn't yet provided details.

4. bonuses my butt. I personally think that NOBODY in management in ANY of the companies getting TARP
or any sort of bailout money should be getting one dime.

5. There are a LOT of people running out of unemployment benefits who
would HAPPILY take a job for a straight salary without bonuses. I am SICK of the arrogance of people who think they are OWED money that their company could not pay without a bailout by the taxpayers.

Talk about a sense of entitlement.

6. those are retention bonuses being paid in 4 installments to the officers
(3 parts to the other employees, tho not everyone is getting one). They've already paid them an installment in 2008. Next one must be coming up.

7. Help me out here, I am not the only one confused. Millions out of
work, companies closing all over the place, no new jobs in sight, and these folks are gonna quit if they don't get a "retention bonus." We can call a spade a spade here. A bonus is a bonus, regardless of the adjective preceding it.

If I am being screwn by bonuses, do I feel better about it if we call it "retention bonus," knowing that these weasels will now stay on with the company and continue on the path that they were on when they lost all those billions? Well now, don't I feel better!

From the same link in the OP <snip>Bonuses for executives at companies that have received federal backing are "definitely wrong," said Rep. Edolphus Towns, a New York Democrat. "They are rewarding folks who have not done a good job." Rep. Towns also questioned whether executives would bolt if they didn't get retention bonuses. "Where are these people going?" he asked. "Everybody's laying off."<snip>

screwn is spelled thusly deliberately
