BOULDER, Colo. — Roger Ebert has selected the independent film “Chop Shop” — about a Latino orphan living in a junkyard near Queens, N.Y. — for this year’s Cinema Interruptus, Conference on World Affairs organizers announced Wednesday.
The film critic, who missed the last two conferences at the University of Colorado because of illness, said “Chop Shop” was one of his favorite movies of 2007. Its writer and director, Ramin Bahrani, also plans to attend the conference, which runs April 6-10.
Former U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., will open the 61st annual CWA with a keynote address titled “Twenty-First Century International Relations” at 11:30 a.m. Monday.
