Tell me if I have this AIG bonus thing right.

1. The Obama administration had a problem with preventing the payment of previously negotiated bonuses to AIG executives.

2. The Obama administration sent something called "Treasury operatives" to influence the appropriate Congressional conference committee and successfully got the desired language drafted by, and inserted into, the legislation in question.

3. The public, upon learning that bonuses are being paid to AIG employees, goes apeshit.

4. President Obama finds the closest available microphone and pretends that he's shocked by the payments of bonuses for which he lobbied to have paid.

5. Key Democratic Congressional leaders, under pressure from the Obama administration, refuse to tell the American people what's really going on.

6. A backlash is unleashed on those very same key Democratic Congressional leaders because they're ultimately responsible for the conference process.

7. President Obama again finds a microphone to draw pressure from the Democratic Congressional leaders by claiming that the "buck" stops with him.

Is that about right?

3. Well, I for one am grateful this bonus flap happened

because it seems to have *finally* gotten people's attention. I've been outraged for months, but apparently this bonus flap was the straw that broke the camel's back for many people. (I don't mean here - I mean the people who get all their info from the Corpo medis.)
