Mail carrier saves woman from Near-Northside fire, completes her rounds
Mail carrier finished rounds after saving life
By Kevin O'Neal
Posted: March 18, 2009

When a mail carrier realized an 80-year-old woman was inside a burning house, she didn't hesitate to rush inside to help.

"It was something instinctive," Jackie Jefferson said. "I wasn't thinking. I puffed up my nerves and did it. I can't believe it happened."

Jefferson's actions got the wheelchair-bound woman out of her Near-Northside house Monday afternoon. Then, true to her postal duties, Jefferson resumed walking her mail delivery route.

14. No kidding! All that junk mail's not gonna deliver itself!
Seriously, look at how much of what she's holding is just crap. I hate finding my mailbox stuffed full of that, and that they have to walk around delivering it (when they could be saving people's lives!!)

Kidding - she's a hero, that's awesome!

6. She was most likely afraid not to finish her route.
They are dogged by management on their "hours", which is how the PO budgets.

Good on her.

16. I hope she gets a medal. Heard her in an interview on CBC radio. She's so humble.
She saved that lady's life.
