I'm pretty proud of my relative who took this...:-)'s They didn't get back to Boca until 2:00 a.m. ...thousands of people in massive traffic jam. But, worth it to see.

7. They are kinda nuts. My cousin dated a shuttle commander for a while
he still does a lot of flight testing on experimental spacecraft-and he's big on mountain climbing, white water rafting, sky diving.... He's 58 and still can't get enough of living on the edge.

9. Flight people in MHO are all nuts...coming from a height phobic
person. :scared: But, my admiration for all of them knows know bounds.

After all..without some crazies who "have no fear" we'd be living in the Dark Ages in caves...(at least that's the way I look at it all)

Claustrophobics and Height Fearful do Contribute in their OWN WAYS, though.

So...it's all good...that Mix. Sort of keeps civilization moving.

11. Cool
It looked pretty much the same from my front yard--and I'm on the other coast! (FL is so flat, it's ridiculous.) It's amazing how slowly those boosters fall back to earth, like slo-mo.

My mom fell for a guy who was a test pilot and seems to always regret he didn't push harder to get into the program. He said there's nothing like strapping yourself to a giant bomb for an adrenaline rush. . .

12. "WHOO HOO....BOMBS AWAY!" Without those kind of folks, though..our lives and the MSM would be very
DULL! :D

I dunno. I hear that you can see the Launches as far away as Atlanta, GA and Miami?

I think it's cool that folks still go in the THOUSANDS to the launches though. Forware/Furture Thinkers.

It's good...and SPECTACULAR!

14. I'm SW FL
Right on the coast, halfway between Sarasota and Ft. Myers. When the Challenger blew up, it looked like it was about five minutes away. The terrain here is just crazy because it's so flat. A couple years ago, I drove my daughter up to Atlanta and she was weirded out when we hit Gainesville and the terrain started rolling. By the time we hit Marietta and saw real mountains, she was just gobsmacked. I suppose it's not inconceivable that you could see the launches from there, given the right vantage point. Miami, for certain.

15. Gainsville is pretty peaceful, too....Horse Country...pretty...I can
imagine a kid growing up on the seacoast getting "gobsmacked" when one gets into Georgia and the little mountains. I grew up on coast of SC...and couldn't believe that SC actually had "highland hills" on the border with NC and then real Mountains!

16. Is that across the Intercoastal Waterway from the Cape?
It looks like the view we got from a seafood restaurant in Titusville we ate at when we were last down there. I took shots of the towers on the Cape from there and from the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge.

Great shots!

17. I saw one from the far north end of Cocoa Beach last summer.
We happened to be having a family reunion there. We didn't know there was going to be a shuttle launch at the time we were setting up our plans, but it was sure a great bonus.

I'd wanted to see a rocket launch for about as long as I can remember. Even before they wheeled that TV's into the classroom in first grade. And I can say right now that it's been one of the few things in my life I've anticipated and dreamed of over a long period that not only met my imagination but sped by and gave it whiplash.

Anything you see of a filmed live launch gives only a dim shadow of what it is like to be there in person.

If you ever get a chance to do this? Do this.
