Closing Businesses Add To Blight In Bellevue Ne (Our new hometown & video)

After 50 years Marta and I moved to Bellevue in Nov. of 06. We love it here. We hate to see things go the way they are. I travel Fort Crook Road every day on my way to work.

OMAHA, Neb -- Some businesses along Fort Crook Road have closed and others say they’ll be next. It’s adding to the blight in Bellevue.

The Sears department store will close its doors at the end of May. TD Ameritrade is moving its call center from the area to a new location in west Omaha.

A much smaller store, but one that’s been in business as long as the Bellevue Sears store, is closing in just two weeks.

The Limited Image Gallery has been around for 37 years. But business has been bad.

“I love the industry. I love the business, but the problems have just gotten more and more and more,” said Bill Cox, co-owner of the store.

Cox said he’s only selling about a third of what he was selling just five years ago. He attributes most of the decline in profits to the store’s surroundings.

“Fort Crook Road is basically dead,” he said.

Cox said the closing of stores like Sears, coupled with less traffic, is a good indicator the area is suffering.

2. Season tickets

South end zone. For pure enjoyment, I prefer sitting on our deck watching birds. The other side of our back fence is 1,200 acres of Fontenelle Forest. We have a rare (for our area) Pileated woodpecker family that lives 100 feet from our deck.

Sounds like this: http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/audio/Pileated_Woodpecker.html
