It really speaks VOLUMES about a party . . .
. . . that values the opinions of neo-fascist talk show hosts over those of their own legislators.

. . . that thinks of their constituents, many of whom fell on hard times through no fault of their own, as losers in the game of life.

. . . that deem themselves experts on the "dangers of socialism", even though 94% of the GOP have never experienced even a liberal government, much less a socialist one.

. . . that they complain so much about returning to Clinton-era tax levels (a mere 4% increase over the current top tax rate, mind you), while ignoring the 91% top rate under Eisenhower, the 70% rate under Nixon and the 50% rate under Reagan.

. . . that values the needs of the wage payer over those of the wage earner.

. . . that, on the Senate floor two months ago, had their representatives suggest that American Auto workers concede to a lower wage to maintain competitiveness with their overseas counterparts.

. . . that believes war criminals, treasury looters and country destroyers deserve respect.

. . . that believes instituting Universal Health Care would be slightly worse than child murder, yet constantly bitch about corporate "legacy and health care costs" and don't see the disconnect.

. . . that encourages "Tea Parties" while remaining deathly silent and suspiciously ignorant of the fact that 70% of the current National Debt was rung up by three Republican presidents.

. . . that believes the "free markets" "simply aren't allowed to be free enough", despite giving corporate leaders and the wealthy practically every right, tax break and tax cut under the sun for 28 years.

. . . that clings to the belief that cutting everyone's taxes (especially those of the wealthy) will spurn unprecedented economic growth and jobs despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

. . . that believes killing Iraqis and Afghanistan's citizens will avenge our being attacked by Saudi Arabian, UAE and Egyptian hijackers.

. . . that believes these occupations of choice are "just" and would do it again if it means "defending our freedoms" . . . against nations that never attacked or even threatened us.

. . . that wholeheartedly embraces the hate-filled rhetoric of their supporters at rallies and wonder why they lost 2008 in a landslide.

. . . that still pushes the "liberal media" canard despite a recent study that shows Republicans outnumber Democrats 2 to 1 on various cable news networks.

. . . that continually blames everyone (most predominantly, the policies of a president that hasn't been in office in 9 years and the policies of a president that's been in office 9 weeks) except themselves for the economic mess we're in.

. . . that thinks the problem is that they're "not conservative enough".

:wtf:

Only universal health care can conquer this disease.

Rolling back the tax cuts NOW might help acheive that long sought-after goal as well.

He enjoys every moment of it. And the big, fat paycheck that comes with it.

12. Nancy Pelosi needs a speech writer.
No. The nation needs to learn about this post: Facts presented in a way that explains the GOP greedhead's impact on our future; the conservative's concern for party, power and profits before country; and the real meaning of their tyrannical perspectives on the Constitution.

Thank you for an excellent post. You are tops, HughBeaumont.

14. you hit the nail on the head.
republicans seem to be a walking contradiction. And the worst thing is, as I see it, they go after anyone who has the temerity to even try to change anything. I may not agree with Meghan McCain, but she made some valid points. The republicans are going to have to decide which party they are going to be. If they continue in the manner they are right now, then they are going to find themselves very lonely and very NOT in power. people like Meghan McCain who seem to be more pragmatic and open want to expand their party. That means they are going to have to accept a couple things that many of them are not willing to accept. I personally don't understand how women participate in a party that seems to want to keep women down, but whatever. They will as long as women put up with it. At some point they will have to reconcile these opposing, contradictory ideas, but i am sure they won't.

21. isn't that the truth..!
Conservatism has always meant that 'profits' go up..yet their followers still believe it's about smaller government and less spending. What does it take to make them see it's just the opposite?? Good grief every GOP POTUS since Reagan has outspent a liberal one. I personally and sick of being told I should grovel at the feet of the wealthy crooks because they provide jobs. Well where are the jobs now? Thanks for putting in writing the very things that have been destroying the middle class and hurting the country for decades. These people are such hypocrites they have the nerve to screech against a woman's choice but won't help with children's health insurance. Why do they think they call themselves 'neo-cons'?

22. Not only have they SPENT (read: wasted) more than any Democratic president . . .
. . . Reagan and Bewsh II also had the greatest government expansions under their reigns.

I believe that weird yard gnome Grover Norquist said something funny about "Government" and "drowning it in a bathtub"??

The hypocrisy, it burns . . .

24. it sure does friend
Norquist is typical of those who would destroy our democracy. Starve the beast is their motto. After all no government means corporatism. He was one of the ones who got the tax subsidy rate at 15% for hedge fund managers. While teachers pay 25% and higher earners pay 35% Geez God forbid they're taxed the same as us blue collar workers. A quote from TPMCafe last years says it all.

"What is really so special about the fund manager tax break is that it exposes the rightwing as what it is, not a principled movement for small government, but rather a cabal that aims to use the power of government to shift as much wealth and income as possible to those at the top. Grover Norquist has been quoted as saying that he wants to shrink government down to the size where he can drown it in a bathtub. When it comes to those portions of the government that function to redistribute income from the poor and middle class to those at the top, this sounds like a very good idea."

At which time the US Middle Class was at its greatest point in history. Its been in decline ever since Raygun's regime.

25. And this from Ann Richards (1999?)
How to Be a Good Republican

1. You have to believe that the nation's current 8-year prosperity was due to the work of Ronald Reagan and George Bush, but yesterday's gasoline prices are all Clinton's fault.

2. You have to believe that those privileged from birth achieve success all on their own.

3. You have to be against all government programs, but expect Social Security checks on time.

4. You have to believe that AIDS victims deserve their disease, but smokers with lung cancer and overweight individuals with heart disease don't deserve theirs.

5. You have to appreciate the power rush that comes with sporting a gun.

6. You have to believe...everything Rush Limbaugh says.

7. You have to believe that the agricultural, restaurant, housing and hotel industries can survive without immigrant labor.

8. You have to believe God hates homosexuality, but loves the death penalty.

9. You have to believe society is color-blind and growing up black in America doesn't diminish your opportunities, but you still won't vote for Alan Keyes.

10. You have to believe that pollution is OK as long as it makes a profit.

11. You have to believe in prayer in schools, as long as you don't pray to Allah or Buddha.

12. You have to believe Newt Gingrich and Henry Hyde were really faithful husbands.

13. You have to believe speaking a few Spanish phrases makes you instantly popular in the barrio.

14. You have to believe that only your own teenagers are still virgins.

15. You have to be against government interference in business, until your oil company, corporation or Savings and Loan is about to go broke and you beg for a government bail out.

16. You love Jesus and Jesus loves you and, by the way, Jesus shares your hatred for AIDS victims, homosexuals, and President Clinton.

17. You have to believe Big Government has nothing to do with providing police protection, national defense, and building roads.
