Hightower - Americans Are Raring for a Fight Against Corporate Power
'3/4 of Americans want to see a huge worker protection bill pass through Congress, and the greedy corporations are running scared.

Last October, Home Depot cofounder Bernie Marcus blew a gasket, spewing outrage in all directions. "This is the demise of civilization," he exploded. "This is how a civilization disappears. I'm watching this happen and I don't believe it!"

Bernie's outburst came during an hour-long conference call with various other corporate executives and their political operatives. The purpose was to collect industry funds for a campaign to kill a piece of legislation called the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). Yes, the spark that ignited Bernie's fury, the hellish horror that he insisted would produce America's Armageddon, was a simple labor bill, and he was demanding that the corporate powers rally to save civilization as they know it.

"As a shareholder, if I knew the CEO of the company wasn't doing anything on ...I would sue the son of a bitch," he foamed. "If a retailer has not gotten involved in this...he should be shot. They should be thrown out of their goddamn jobs."'

1. Fight against corporate power; ABSOLUTELY!
Fight against corporate power through unions; ABSOLUTELY NOT! STOP the M & A, END lobbyists and k street, legislate a workers bill of rights with regulation and oversight, END corruption and its associated compensation for corporate executive management including boards, STOP outsourcing of american jobs, STOP in-sourcing of foreign low wage workers.

If Congress and Geithner and so on keep dithering around, it may take some actual unrest to put some fear into those fuckers.

But it's time to rein in the megacorps, and the longer we the people get blown off, the more pissed off we're gonna get.

I want my middle class back.

6. All 19 Or 20 Of Them?
"He even claims that top executives "are ready to riot in the street about it." Now that's exciting! I, for one, would pay to watch a horde of red-faced, Gucci-clad, CEOs rioting, wouldn't you?"

10. Well, I joined the ranks of people battling DirecTV today
for unethical bait and switch tactics to keep me from canceling their service. And no, I won't go away until these bastards are exposed and publicly flayed.

13. Thanks for the heads up
I occasionally consider getting dish or cable, but fear of bait and switch plus unwillingness to spend the money has kept me from doing it so far.

If they really were interested in addressing corporatocracy, they wouldn't have poopooed Ralph Nader's candidacy.

Most Americans want to be able to hold on to their "stuff" (RIP George Carlin).

Corporatocracy doen't rile them.

Loosing their stuff does.

17. I think if Nader was interested in addressing "corporatocracy" he'd have mentored a more electable
candidate onto the stage, handed them the reigns, and seen that they had all they needed to be a part a new effort to make stuff happen

third party people are seen as a total waste of time. (by most)
