Who, in your opinion, is the shittiest, meanest, nastiest credit card comapny out there?
I think it is Capital One. I have NEVER had their card. They have been a client of mine. We fired them cuz they are a TERRIBLE client to work for. I know people who have had their card and it is ALWAYS something in their mailings. They constantly ticker with the terms. This is nothing new.

Who do you think is worst, and why?

3. Amen About Capital One.
I haven't had a credit card in about ten years and had to file for bankruptcy about a decade ago, and Capital One was absolutely the worst bunch of assholes I have had the displeasure of dealing with. They were horrible, and tried to shame me.

4. You named it.
Capital One. I got frustrated with their customer service ... whatever it is that really ISN'T customer service. It's been a long time and I don't remember what the particular incident was.

21. Same here - got into the credit union at my last job
My one and only credit card is through them, and it has a rate of 7%. They even lowered their rates when the Fed lowered rates. When I started with them it was 11%, and over the years, it went down to 7%.

8. MBNA
Raised our card to a usurious rate even though we were working with a credit counseling service. And horrible customer service. Since we went through that unfortunate episode, we've had only one credit card, from a CREDIT UNION!

9. Used to be Capital One and Discover...
then Citi and Amex joined them in the downward spiral of cutomer FU attitude.

One of my cards is from my local community bank, had it since 1993
It is a Visa, has always been a Visa, none of this changing of card names every year
to Mastercard, then Palntinum, then gold, etc.
NEVER an interest rate increase ( 9.5%), eventually they raised limit frm 500.00 to 5000.00,
never any unwanted mailings from them, and at years end they send me an annual statement of all charges, which is convenient. They gave me permanent phone number to a
local rep. who has readily addressed any of the minor issues.
I have always paid in full every month.
I trust them.

Wish I could say same for my Citibank card, which I have also had since 1993.
Advertisements mailings, rate increases, etc.
Always paid in full every month.
So far Citi has not claimed to never get the monthly check in time, but I do mail it the day after I get the bill.
I do not trust them.

10. Capitol One.
I've really had no problem with them, and I've had their card for years.

However, last week I got a letter informing me that my rate was being jacked up to 17.9%.

Now, I'm one of those "deadbeats" who pays off the card every month, so my effective interest rate is 0%.

They probably don't care if I cancel the card, since they are not making any money off me.

19. Actually they still are making money off you;
every time you use their card they discount the seller 2% on the purchase price. If you switch cards they lose it.

20. Same here
Only they offered to raise my rate to 29.4%. I had the choice to decline their stinky offer or accept it. I declined, after paying off my card. Ha!

12. Chase. When you resort to sending 12 year olds credit apps
And then ignore the parent's requests to STOP doing it -- that's the lowest form of predatory lending on the planet.

14. Chase
My credit scores are all close to 800, the interest rate on my (paid in full each month) Chase account is 28% (if I should ever miss a payment)

Because I am too lazy to change. Putting this down in black & white might motivate me to look elsewhere.

I don't have any hard and fast evidence, just anecdotes from friends about family members/friends who were screwed over.

Then Chase.

17. I don't have one, but American Express asking for tax returns
is simply too much.

And profiling their cardholders by where they shop is creepy.

22. I do know that Verizon is THE worst wireless co.
If you are late more than 30 days, they robo-call you 4 times a day to tell you about a "change" in your account. Then they have a real person call you in the middle of your work day. When you explain that you are trying to get caught up, they ask if you can send the money "today". When you say it will be a week or so, they again ask if you can send it "today". When you say "I'm going to hang up now so I can try and make some money to pay you" the same person calls you again the next day. Soon as I can get away from those bastards, I'm switching to Credo.
