PLEASE, DU this poll trying to gauge Abortion Rights in TN
This Nov. we in TN lost. For the first time since the 1860's our state Congress switched from Dem majority to Repuke majority. In their fervor to push through as much of their agenda as possible, they are trying to amend our state constitution to make abortion illegal.

Please add your touch to this poll, to help us show the media how America really feels about pro-choice v. anti-choice.

Sadly, the present figures are:
Anti-abortion 57%
For abortion rights 38%

http://www.wsmv.com/index.html

Poll is toward the bottom of the middle column.

8. As someone who lived in Shelbyville TN for three years those numbers actually sound pretty soft for
the right winger religious types.

That state is pretty bad even compared to some others I've lived in in the deep South.

Nashville is nice though, I liked spending time up there. It's kind of an exception though, not the rule as far as progressive vs. conservative goes in TN.

It was running 56% anti-rights and 39% for rights.

It looks like the freepers are winning.

11. Done! Did anyone read the responses about it? TN
has lived up to its reputation as a backward state.

15. Isn't it terribly sad. I was born & raised in the state & have lived here all of my life.
It is no doubt one of the most beautiful states in the nation. However....ignorance abounds. I suspect too much inbreeding over many generations. Unfortunately many wear their ignorance like a badge of honor, and it has worsened significantly in the last 30 years.

I'm searching for another state to move to when my last child graduates from college in 2 years. The RW agenda here is smothering. The only thing we have going for us now is a Dem Governor, & that is certainly subject to change in the next election. Even Nashville, which is the Dem stronghold of the state, has NO progressive media. There is one independent radio station, but the rest are all conservatively owned & operated, pushing the RW agenda.......Rush (Gush), Beck (Belch), Hannity, et.al., plus an array of local conservative tools.

The worst thing is the over-emphasis of Fundies in the state. They are tainting everything. When I was growing up here in the '60's, they did not "run" things as much as they do now. They're taking over our political structure, riding into power in Nov on the coattails of the RW Christian vote.

I simply can't stand it anymore.

27. Atlanta is nice, liberal and close - if you like Nashville you'll like Atlanta.
If you are willing to move to Florida it is blue now and trending bluer (your moving here will make it bluer still... ;) North Florida is pretty much like TN politically but from the I4 corridor southward things get progressively more progressive. Of course they also get more expensive and more "NYC south" as the Southern flavor disappears almost entirely to the point that there's no decent barbeque or sweet iced tea and you can't find a Krispy Kreme donuts.

29. Atlanta is just too big for me. I'm used to a small suburban/rural town now.
The affordable areas of FL are loaded w/fundies! The exact group I'm hoping to escape! Even though I'm a born & bred Southerner, I don't like sweet iced tea (I refer to it as light molasses!), I know that is unbelievable & could be cause for my excommunication from The South. LOL But, FL is still in the running, since I love the sun & the beach.

I've been considering NM or OR, but I've got 2 yrs to decide.

Thanks for the info. :hi:

30. You don't have to live downtown Atlanta...there are lots of areas of Atlanta to look at
before you just write it off entirely.

I would have to get much farther out than that. I can't stand the traffic in my old age!
