Bush pumping $$ into merit pay
by Michael Hirsch

Nov 2, 2006 5:25 PM

The Bush administration is proceeding with a national teacher-pay plan based exclusively on student test scores. Dubbed the Teacher Incentive Fund, the Bush administration has said it would announce 16 grants totaling $42 million which will be disbursed by the federal Department of Education to the states — all before the Nov. 7 elections.

Such performance pay “has very little chance of having impact ,” said Rob Weil, deputy director of educational issues for the AFT. “You have to prepare teachers properly. You have to have mentoring and professional development and professional standards. If you don’t have those things, it doesn’t matter what you do with compensation.”

Gosh, the AFT was agin it when Bush did it, but for it when O. does it.

Orwell much?

Meet the new boss...

1. Feel the squeeze?
The far-right and center-right have us in a vice. As the parties come together as one, the body bursts and nothing makes a lick of sense.
