got passed legislation that said people screwed by banks or finance houses had no recourse to sue. How did Democrats allow that to pass and can it be overturned or will it be overturned? It basically gave mortgage houses free reign to do whatever they wanted with no recourse, hence the shape america is currently in.

WASHINGTON---Ohio Congressman Robert W. Ney, who pleaded guilty last month to making false statements to the U.S. House of Representatives and who faces up to 10 years in prison, has resigned his Congressional seat.

Ney sent his letter of resignation to House Speaker Dennis Hastert Friday.

Ney, 52, was caught up in lobbyist's Jack Abramoff influence peddling scheme and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit multiple offenses including honest services fraud, making false statements and violations of his former chief of staff's one year lobbying ban.

Under a plea agreement signed by Ney, federal prosecutors will recommend a sentence of 27 months in prison when he is sentenced Jan. 19.

3. That was well understood I thought.
The question still remains, how did Democrats allow him to get passed a bill which would literally give banks and financial institutes immunity from any civil suits related to predator lending policies or anything else for that matter? I realize this happened years ago but it still happened and I am wondering if it can and will be repealed.

4. How do the DEMS not ' allow' the majority party to do what it will do?
Sorry, but your question sounded like you didn't grasp that it was when the GOP held the majority. Still sorta not understanding how the DEMS could allow or not allow ANYTHING when they were the minority.

5. Republicans did not have sixty Republicans in the Senate
It is a fairly simple measure for the minority to block legislation by filibuster, but I am sure you know that. Democrats just failed to exercise that obligation in this particular case IMO. How can protecting these financial giants from civil action be in the people's interest?

6. Seem to recall GOP threats to use the nuke option too: eliminate cloture votes
That is what gets filibustered, not the actual legislation. GOP made a lot of threats and DEMs were probably wise to worry. GOP did a whole lotta really insane crap.

2. Something else Bob Ney did--the "Help America Vote Act", aka
"The Help America Vote For Bush Act"--by which rightwing Bushwhack voting machine corporations gained control of our voting system, nationwide, with 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code, and virtually no audit/recount controls.

How did Democrats allow that to pass?--I would like to know! (Half the Dems in the House and most of the Dems in the Senate voted for it, in the same month they voted for the Iraq War Resolution--Oct 02. Curious.)
