Know of anyone who might benefit from embryonic stem cell research?
I get sick of the republicans being against this field of science, they argue that democrats are baby killers for supporting anything but 'adult' stem cell research. I feel they get all their info from rush and pat robertson, and that their zealous religious beliefs are getting in the way of common sense.

While the repubs are being mean and shitty and living in the dark ages, someone you know might actually benefit from embryonic stem cell research.

As a baby, I had polio, but now, it is virtually unknown in America, imagine finding cures for other horrible diseases, just imagine how many lives could be saved or made whole from scientific research, of all kinds. Imagine an end to aids, or MS, or MD, Cancer, or even the common cold!

FUCK those who would stand in the way of helping the human race in this way, President Barack Obama has done the right thing by slowly obliterating every thing that bush screwed up. More power to him, and to medical science and those who do this extremely important research.

2. My brother had substantial spinal cord damage in a car wreck.
His cord was partially severed. He can walk fine, but the nerves to his bowels and bladder were damaged and he must catheterize to urinate and eat lots of fiber to have a bm. Over twenty years now. Ruined his sex life too.

14. So did my mom.
Ravaged is the word I use to describe how it took away her independence and made her fight so hard, so long. It was heartbreaking to watch a strong woman taken down by a disease.

5. Half of my family
We have a hereditary disease (PKD) in our family that normally doesn't manifest until adulthood. The fact that they live long enough to have children has meant it's been passed on for generations. It killed 50% of my mother's generation. The quirky luck of the genetic draw has meant a significantly smaller percentage of my generation is affected, but one of them is the brother I raised and love very much. Fortunately, he was able to get a transplant from my wonderful niece. Unfortunately, rejection or failure of the kidney is something he'll always have to worry about. Fuck to their mythical hell and back any asshole who would deny him the enormous improvement in quality of life stem cell research might offer him.

6. A friend of mine has Hepatitis C and needs a liver replacement.
Had it not been for George W Bush and the Republican Party we would be 8 years closer to a treatment that might not involve finding a compatible donor and an expensive and risky transplant procedure.

I have Type 1 diabetes, and have had it for almost 20 years now (I'm 28). I'd love to not need to deal with it anymore, and to have my body be as healthy as possible.

12. My older brother's wife
suffers with MS, and they are hopeful that the research will now move at a faster pace. My younger brother's son has epilepsy and hemiplegic cerebral palsy. Sadly, younger brother is a commited anti-science fundie, busily helping his son pack for his first semester at Bob Jones University.

15. I could sure use some stem cells...
I have Crohn's Disease, an incurable bowel disease. I'll volunteer to test those embryonic stem cells! For any readers who have, or know someone who has any form of bowel disease I refer you to a diet called the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. This diet saved my life. Please check out the website www.BreakingTheViciousCycle.info - after years of conventional medical treatment my health continued to deteriorate until I found the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. I am sure looking forward to trials for stem cells! Obama is a god-send.

28 years post injury, T-4 complete paraplegic.

And I've got a number of friends over at the VA, including my doctor, who'd love to see some stem cell goodness.
