Gunman: 'If You're Not A Christian You're Going To Die'
Andrew Sullivan has this story I missed from January posted. The whack jobs are sure coming out of the woodwork.

BOULDER, Colo. -- A 24-year-old ski lift operator who fatally shot the general manager of the Eldora ski area was determined to kill co-workers who weren't Christian, according to court records obtained Thursday.

The documents, filed Wednesday in Boulder District Court, said witnesses told authorities that Derik Bonestroo walked into a building at work, fired a gun into the ceiling and said: "If you're not Christian, you're going to die."

General manager Brian Mahon was shot and killed Dec. 30 at the ski area west of Nederland, Colo., in Boulder County.

Witnesses said when Bonestroo asked Mahon's religion, Mahon said "Catholic" and Bonestroo shot him twice: in the chest and head. Mahon is believed to have died instantly. Other employees ran out the back door of the ski employee's meeting area and fled into the woods, describing an additional four to five shots being fired.

Boonestroo fled the ski area in his car and then was intercepted and chased by a Boulder sheriff's deputy who happened to be in nearby Nederland when the 911 call came in. Boonestroo fired at the deputy's vehicle, hitting it several times, and finally pulled over on Highway 119 and began firing out his driver's side window.

The deputy, a Boulder SWAT officer, returned fire after taking cover behind his vehicle. Authorities say Bonestroo was hit multiple times by the deputy's assault rifle before he fatally shot himself while sitting in his car, a few miles from the ski area.

51. People who act like the fundies do are neither 'Christian' or 'Muslim'.
Neither religion was ever intended to be used and abused like they are. Neither was meant to be as nasty, mean-spirited, evil as they've turned out to be.

I will repeat myself once again, once a religion moves into the 'organized' stage from the 'cult' stage, it is no longer anything relating to the spiritual. It morphs into a business concerned with only its own self-interests and the ability to manipulate people into believing that they have the power of heaven and hell at their fingertips.

imo the world would be a far better place with no organized religion ~ too bad so many people are easily manipulated.

Jewish loonies along with the Muslim and Christians. I know it's not representative of religious folks on the whole, but they sure give everyone a bad name when they start killing in the name of their respective religions.

21. Well, it was quite in keeping with the behavior of many who claimed to be Christian.
In fact, it was quite consonant with those who claimed to be the ONLY Christians.

As in: "Are you a Christian?" "I'm a Catholic." Boom!

There was, after all, a reason that our Founders chose to separate church and state -- and religious WARS had a lot to do with that.

48. But what's really sad to me...
...is that the person who answered "Catholic" probably thought he'd be safe with that answer.

Very few Christians, when asked what their religion is, will say "Christian". They'll say "Methodist" or "Baptist" or "Lutheran" or any one of a number of Christian denominations. Christian is not a denomination, it encompasses all of the above. Now if the gunman had said "If you're not a Baptist, you're going to die!", then sure, I'd say I was a Baptist. But if he said "If you're not a Christian, you're going to die!" then I might very well assume that I'd be safe to name whatever major Christian denomination I belonged to -- and it would feel natural to respond in that way.

The poor guy didn't have a chance to analyze the lunatic gun-toting "Christian" and figure out that, to him, Catholics aren't Christians.

In other words, cut funding for the mentally ill so badly that many were out on the street. One of the reasons I do give money to panhandlers. You never know where they've been... and they may just be sick with nowhere to go.

16. A few things.
Ask christians what they think of this act and they will say this guy violated christian law and there is no way to twist his actions into being justifiable as a christian. He is a crazy murderer no matter what religion he claims. Thou shalt not murder. The christian bible does not say to kill non-christians, no way no how.

SWAT guys do not have assault rifles, they have semi-auto rifles. Soldiers have assault rifles.

As usual, as soon as somebody resisted with violence, the crazy bad guy killed himself. This is why police depts are now instructed to engage an active shooter as soon as possible instead of waiting for SWAT. It doesn't take an entire SWAT team to stop them, and the bad guy continues to kill people until he is engaged. ANYBODY meeting the bad guy with violence will probably cause him to kill himself.

The first time I heard/read that I laughed out loud in utter disbelief at their idiocy.

The following was posted online from several different posters in a discussion forum that got onto religion:

Catholicism isn't Christianity...Catholicism was created by an atheist...
----
no catholocism isnt christianity when jesus died the huge curtain that only preists could enter to talk to god was ripped. catholics pray to marry not god. they believ you have to confess sins to a preist who forgives you which is wrong you can directly approach god and ask for forgiveness. there are more differences as well. transsubstantiation which catholics believe the wine actually turns to his blood in your mouth and the bread to his flesh. nice try
---
Post were I can find any scriptures that Peter was ever in Rome. And not what any Pope's wrote about what they believe. In the Holy Bible please show me where Peter WAS IN ROME. I can't find it. TY

43. Cristians don't think of Catholics as Christian. And Anglicans and Methodists might be in trouble.
I'm a Jewish atheist myself, so no expert. I grew up with a lot of Catholics and it wasn't until high school that I encountered my first real Christian. He wanted to know what I thought of Jesus Christ. None of my Catholic friends ever cared. It was weird. I said, "You're kidding."

These days I usually differentiate between Catholics and Christians. So people tell me, "But Catholics ARE Christians!" But I know about things like Boulder, so I say, "Yeah, right." :eyes:
