Meghan McCain calls Ann Coulter 'offensive' and 'insulting'
Edited on Mon Mar-09-09 12:01 PM by RamboLiberal
Fresh off public complaints about her own love life, Meghan McCain has a new target for her most recent gripes: conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

In a new blog post for the Daily Beast as Ann Coulter and HBO host Bill Maher are kicking off a week-long debate tour today in New York, McCain calls President Obama “the hippest politician around” and says being a Republican is “about as edgy as Donny Osmond.”

And she blasts Coulter for helping to “perpetuate negative stereotypes” about Republican women. “I straight up don’t understand this woman or her popularity,” says McCain. “I find her offensive, radical, insulting, and confusing all at the same time.”

She concedes that Coulter seems to be followed by a “cult that cannot be denied,” and was a popular headliner at the recent Conservative Political Action Conference, but adds that “when your competition is a teenager who has a dream about the Republican Party and Stephen Baldwin, it’s not really saying that much.”

It’s not Coulter’s politics, says McCain — it’s her personality. “Maybe her popularity stems from the fact that watching her is sometimes like watching a train wreck,” she says.

Elisabeth Hassbeck has said she doesn't like Anne Coulter, so this isn't saying much. But, as I said in the other thread, I did think that Meghan McCain looked uncomfortable at the hate rallies.

She should write something against Rove, especially after what he did to her family. Going after Anne Coulter is kind of playing it safe. But I'm not particularly impressed by this. Plus, Coulter has said bad things about Meghan's dad.

4. I'm not falling for this.

Looks like Meghan's been tapped to soften the Republican image and ride the wave of Obama's high approval ratings.

Sorry if this sounds too cynical, but if there's one thing I've learned about the Republicans since Newt's Contract on America, it's to never trust anything they do.

5. she strikes me as a relatively sane young woman, considering...
however, you can be sure Republican strategists will try and tap into her appeal to attract more youth votes. Nothing too sinister in that I suppose, it's not like liberal organizations or strategists weren't thrilled to let Chelsea speak or appear or what have you at their events.

10. I'm not questioning her sanity, just her motivations.
The Republican party has done a fantastic job at marginalizing itself and proving to the public that it's fundamental character consists of right-wing religious and social extremists.

Let's make sure we help them keep it that way.

12. this may sound strange here at DU
but I would love for Republicans to move back to the center and run competitive campaigns across the country. I think government works better when elected reps on both sides are fighting for their jobs every cycle.

I am a liberal and proud of it, however I know that over time one party rule by Democrats will inevitably result in the same corruption, cronyism and incompetence as the Bush years. It's happened before to us.

I also say this knowing we will have a nice cushion of liberal dominance for another 4-8 years, at least.

15. I would love for the Republican Party to stay right where they currently reside.
And have a Third, fourth, fifth...Party come into prominence, instead of just a two party system, where every decade or so both groups fight for the movable middle.

6. That's a surprise. Good for Meghan!
However, I was reading in the comments...Rush has another girlfriend?

Three ex-wives and a girlfriend?

Well, I suppose with the world population, he might be able to find 4 females dumb enough and with strong enough stomachs to take him on. Literally. Gag!

Perhaps Janeane Garafalo talked some sense into Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe) to stay away from him...

11. I wonder if anyone here read this part in her blog:
For the record, I am also extremely pro-military and a big supporter of the surge and the Iraq war.

I quit reading the article right there. :puke:
