I am so happy about President Obama reversing on stem cell research
but so sad personally.

I've been hoping for years this would happen because a close family member could surely benefit and extend his life with research.

But he found religion, and now thinks his disease is a gift from God. He now wouldn't change a thing.

And there is no arguing with him. :(

1. I'm VERY happy!
I feel about this the same way I feel about animal zealots, medical research and modern medicine. If they all object so vociferously to the results of modern medical research, then let them forego the treatments and cures.

2. But soon he might have a choice.
If research now leads where I hope, that is. Even if he continues to opt out, it would be good if he, along with millions of others, would have the choice.

3. My cousin who is dying...
has been getting stem cell treatments for almost a year now. It's really sad how some people value potential life more than existing life. I still have to pinch myself because it's still hard for me to believe we have this man as our President. Sometimes we get better than we deserve in life, and you just got to be thankful and revel in it.

That's sad for you re: your cousin. I suppose if he's happy with his belief system, and his life as it is, there's not much more you could do, or hope for, for him.

6. Another example of how religion destroys people's lives.
I was watching a Discovery Health documentary last night about this man with a horrible face tumor that blocked his vision and his ability to breathe who refused an operation to reduce the size of the tumor because he was a Jehovah's Witness and would not accept a blood transfusion. It's amazing the length that some people will go to destroy their lives (and the lives of the people who love them) because of their irrational superstitions.

7. I didn't post this to bash religion. Everyone is entitled
to believe what they want. I just don't understand that belief if it interferes with their quality of life.

8. All organized religion interferes with the quality of life.
In so very many ways...
