Brown visits troops in N Ireland after attack

(Reuters)

9 March 2009

ANTRIM, Northern Ireland - British Prime Minister Gordon Brown visited troops in Northern Ireland on Monday after a republican splinter group killed two British soldiers in the worst attack in the province in a decade.

Police ramped up the hunt for the killers of the two soldiers who were shot dead late on Saturday as they collected pizzas at the gates of an army base near Antrim, a commuter town outside Belfast.

"You never stood a chance, gunned down by cowardly scum," read one of wreaths of flowers laid outside the barracks.

Brown has promised to "bring the murderers to justice" and on Monday visited the army base where the attack took place. The soldiers were the first British troops to be killed in the province since 1997.

3. Over-react much?
Just because a couple of soldiers were shot by a real radical offshoot of the IRA does not mean "The Catholics and the Protestants are back at it again" It means that there are still die-hards, on both sides, and these idiots are still running around loose. I would say that ten years of peace, marred by the rare occurrence of violence does not constitute the return of anything.

Using your definition, the attack of white supremacist Timothy McVeigh was the return of the Civil War:shrug:

4. I would agree with that. THe IRA wants nothing to do with this,
and has condemned it.

Let's just hope that this doesn't cause a small, albeit crazy, section of the Protestants to try a tit-for-tat reprisal.

Find the ones responsible and bring them to justice.
