For my 10,000th post - Thank you, DU for a place to keep semi-sane these last 3 election cycles

Thank you to Principal Skinner, EarlG (Top10 - finest political comedy on a website), and so so many wonderful DUers who have made an impact on my thinking and in keeping me hopeful despite the horrible situation we kept saying Dubya was putting our country and world into (we were right!).

My original DU name was themartyred because of all the sacrifices of people (like the great man pictured in my avatar) who suffer or die attempting to bring a better life to others, and I found this website was full of people who were actively trying to help change things.

In the process of several kind DUers telling me to stick around or take a break (thanks CBoy4) when upset, I've got to post some things that enriched my life because of the incredible thanks or support I received back, and read so many great original inspiring or funny posts.

From my thread I posted about my ordeal of dealing with a rich BMW driver yelling at me and saying she was calling the police on me for helping a homeless woman, to whom I gave a blanket, because it would "encourage her to stay in the area if she's helped", to having my Minnesota bridge collapse youtube tribute video being copied by a Fred Thompson-nut who added Bush to my video to make Bush look like a savior for coming to the scene of the collapse (so many DUers sprung into action attacking his actions to the point of him removing the video after much rebuking from many here).

My most bizarre post was posting the shocking news of my former local married male state representative, Bob Allen, getting busted for seeking to give oral sex to an undercover cop at our local park and saying that the black (officers) guys in the park scared him so much that he felt like he HAD to perform a sex act on the guy and give him (the undercover cop) $20 to save his life! Yes, he said that in court.


Thank you to everyone who stood up to be heard in my "STONEWALL" post a few months back, and to these DUers for countless threads and comments.

10. Well... I'll tell you a little secret.

I piled up most posts (at least per day) during 6 months of moderating. The mods have a LOT of interaction ... or at least we did in the 2004 primary season. The superfluous one-liners add a lot, too ... even though I don't do "K&R" stuff much. It WAS a busy and active board when the interactions (i.e. folks actually 'discussed') were higher and membership lower, though.
