Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele pledged on Wednesday to place his party on a "12-step program of recovery," while also backpedaling from his recent critiques of conservative radio personality Rush Limbaugh.

Speaking to the Maryland radio station WBAL, Steele said that "no one individual" was head of the party and described his comments downplaying Limbaugh's show and influence as inartful. He added that if Republicans wanted to ascend back to the heights of political power, they had to stop trying to be "cool and hip in a Democrat way," and admit their past mistakes.

"I am putting the party on a 12-step program of recovery," said the RNC chair. "This is going to take some time, it is going to take some effort. But we are prepared to move forward and to state the case, make the case to the American people that we have something to offer. We are not here to be the party that is just here to say no. We are not the party to be in opposition just for the sake of opposition."

2. Step 2 - Admit your FAIL
Edited on Thu Mar-05-09 08:50 AM by SpiralHawk
After 8 miserable years of republicon homelander lies, corruption, and propaganda, most Americans already get it. Republicons FAILED to protect and defend the USA from terrorists and hurricanes, and have brought on another Great Depression, trashed the environment, and flushed America's honor down the crapper with their Chickenhawk-led oil-profits crony crusade in the Middle East.

Now it's time for Republicon Homelanders to take a good long look in the mirror and admit their anti-American FAIL campaign has been a success, and it's time for them to shut up, sit down, and let Americans restore America to greatness.

4. They Can't Get Out Of Denial Mode...
The first step to being able to succede with a 12-step or any program is to admit you have a problem. The only problem the GOOP seem to be admitting lately is electing Steele. Plus...how can you "recover" when you have a big cancer calling the shots in your own party.

I'm gonna miss Steele when he's gone...the clock here shows his 15 minute mark rapidly closing in on around 14:30.

expressing it momentarily, even if he takes it back right away.

6. The 12 Steps - Republican Style
The 12 Steps

Step 1 - We admitted we were powerless because the voters fucked up

Step 2 - Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to electoral health

Step 3 - Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Rush Limbaugh

Step 4 - Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of the country's voters, and found them wanting

Step 5 - Admitted to Rush, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of the voters' shortcomings

Step 6 - Were entirely ready to have Rush lecture the voters on all these defects of character

Step 7 - Humbly asked Rush to remove the voters' shortcomings

Step 8 - Made a list of every slight, real or perceived suffered by our party, and became willing to exact revenge for them all

Step 9 - Visited direct revenge upon the voters wherever possible, except when to do so would expose us to criminal liability

Step 10 - Continued to take personally every development in the real world, and when we were wrong promptly denied it

Step 11 - Sought through listening to Rush to improve our conscious contact with Rush, praying only for knowledge of Rush's will for us and the power to carry that out

Step 12 - Having had a political awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs

9. Admit their wrongs to the people they've hurt? They owe the US citizens an apology for ruining our
economy. I don't think we'll hear one.

13. Not just apologize, but make amends.
Apologizing's easy. Fixing it is a little tougher.
