Needy ...... Party of 1 ... The Chicken McNuggets tragedy
Edited on Wed Mar-04-09 12:32 PM by Stevenmarc
MARCH 3--Angered that her local McDonald's was out of Chicken McNuggets, a Florida woman called 911 three times to report the fast food "emergency."

4. While 911 wasn't the answer
How would you like it if you ordered a product, paid for it, were told they were out of it and then refused your money back?

5. None-the-less, from the stance of a 911 worker. It sounds like a crazy person calling.
Edited on Wed Mar-04-09 12:42 PM by YOY
Or at least something they would call about.

How many of us know the regular number for the police though?

9. Yes, I've worked on crisis hotlines and I agree completely
I'm sure 911 operators get more than their share of calls from people with psychiatric problems.

10. I'd first ask to speak with the McManager
Edited on Wed Mar-04-09 12:48 PM by slackmaster
If that didn't work out, I'd go up the food chain until I got satisfaction.

As a last resort I'd acquire a human skeleton, dress it up in a clown suit and bright red wig, put it in a booth at that restaurant, and call the media.

16. Like any sane person, I would ask my money back, not act like a total schmuck. nt

6. Agreed.
How sad is it that this is a big story, when it's obvious this woman isn't right? Is this what kind of society we've become? Schadenfreude and/or a good laugh at the expense of the mentally ill? And she's arrested??!!! I think simply a ticket or making her get some psychological help would have been more in order.

3. They took her money, gave no nuggets and refused refund
Calling 911 was extreme and unnecessary but the fact that McDonalds refused to refund her her money saying all transactions are final would piss me and anyone else in the world off.

7. yep, her over-reaction really undermined that other important part of the story.
it sucks that a company that says "we can screw up and you still have to take it" simply ian't news anymore.

the sad thing is, if she'd only contacted mcdonald's like she should've, she could've avoided all the trouble, because this is what they ended up doing:

"We want to correct our mistake. We will be sending the customer her refund, along with an invitation to return for her original order, on us. We never want to disappoint a McNuggets fan or any McDonald's customer. Customer satisfaction is our top priority."

12. I agree. They took her money for a product they couldn't give and then refused to refund her money.
I'd be pissed too, not enough to call 911 even once much less 3 times, but yeah I probably would have been loud about it. It's a shame it's been made about her call and not about McDonalds crappy treatment. At least McDonalds has come forward admitting their mistake.

11. Honey, McNuggets ARE the emergency...
that anything such as that qualifies as food is beyond my comprehension.

13. right..?
I feel for her and stuff. But maybe it was some Force of Good trying to help her quit eating McNugget shaped trash.

14. And mind you...I understand the need to eat
cheap, and fast and would never disparage people for their food/budget choices. I'm a poor grad student (but a vegetarian)...But for the love of god, if you want nugget shaped chicken things, go to Wendys.

15. They basically stole her money
Edited on Wed Mar-04-09 01:05 PM by Kingofalldems
I don't blame her for calling. If anyone had stolen a Big Mac would the manager hesitate to call? She should take this to court.
