"Loyal Bushies": Or, Who Will the GOP Conferees on the Iraq Withdrawal Bill Be?

As the House and Senate versions of the defense spending authorization - containing the timetable for starting the withdrawal - now move to a conference committee to hammer out a compromise, it will be extremely important to note ***which*** GOP lawmakers are sent in to conference.

I am especially attuned to see who McConnell sends in for the Senate GOP.

Congrats to the House and Senate leadership. This had a real risk of being a House-only phenom.

Kudos to Senators Hagel and Smith, who have emerged as mavericks on this issue.

Finally, assuming that Bush follows through with his threatened veto, now is the time to start running ads against vulnerable GOP lawmakers, highlighting their "sustain the veto" stance - a.k.a., "prolong the burden on our military families."
