4. So you chose not to watch TV today?
Because I'm pretty sure the media was having a field day with them.

10. Katie Couric sure avoided that issue on Letterman
It was interesting to watch that momentary look of fear on her face when Dave started going after Limpnuts.

12. I'm not a Katie fan, but ...
she was right to stiff-arm Letterman. Although CBS News has been decimated by years of short-sighted cost-cutting and corporate cowardice (remember how 60 Minutes spiked the story on Big Tobacco?) the organization is still full of smart producers, editors and reporters who believe that the most effective journalism is disinterested and subject to rigorous editing. I give Katie credit for upholding this journalistic canon.

That said, Letterman's open derision of Limbaugh was deeply satisfying and a bloody hoot!

11. Tonight's piece was possibly the best lampooning ever of douchebaggery
The biggest fault of liberals and Democrats is that we believe in intellectually honest debate, an invitation to defeat when your opponent is a cynical and disingenuous gasbag who has twin obsessions with self-aggrandizement and barely-veiled authoritarianism. Not long after 9/11 Stewart and crew understood something fundamental (and obvious) about these types of personalities--they can't stand to be laughed at.

IMO Stewart and, later, Colbert made it safe for spineless and corporatized media to do its job.

Barack Obama owes his Presidency to these two "comedians."
