WASHINGTON -- Doctors indicated they found no cancer during surgery Tuesday on Sen. Mike Johanns, said his spokeswoman, Sarah Pompei.
Johanns was resting comfortably at the hospital following three hours of surgery, she said.
Doctors removed the lower lobe of Johanns' left lung as a cautionary step, she said. Johanns hopes to leave the hospital sometime tomorrow and plans to return to work March 16.

Johanns and his wife Stephanie appreciate the outpouring of prayers and support, Pompei said.
The 58-year-old Nebraska Republican went in for a routine physical Nov. 14, Pompei said. Doctors discovered a spot on his left lung Nov. 25 during followup tests.
After monitoring the spot, his doctors decided Monday to proceed with Tuesday's surgery.
The procedure was performed at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington.
